I watched the game and "tex" certianly stood out as a force to be reckoned with. I suspect there will be a lot of interesting stories in Womans AFL for a year or two, until the big money and corporatisation spoil it for aspiring young players who are not well connected to existing sporting families.
Currently in existing established sports, players with well connected sporting relatives get a huge leg up ahead of more talented but unknown players.
It will be interesting to see if Womans AFL can establish to become a major sport. There is a lot of interest from teenage girls in the area I live in and a couple of new junior girls footy teams starting up. It is starting to make inroads into competing with womans competitions such as netball and basketball. Our daughter plays netball at a reasonably high level and she is looking at joining a local footy team. A couple of highly placed and talented, " future star" netballers from her city club, left netball last season to follow the junior pathway to the Crows womans team so it is already having some impact on junior sport at the semi elite level..
