I'm not a fan of our current State Government, but Ido believe in giving credit where credit is due and I was delighted to see the above headline in today's paper. It's not a huge offer, but it's positive, it's proactive and it makes me feel proud to be a Waussie.

"I am of the view that Western Australia could easily accommodate up to 1,000 refugees,"
Mr Barnett urged Prime Minister Tony Abbott to lift the refugee intake in a one-off effort to help deal with the Syrian refugee crisis.
if WA can take up to 1,000, what should
the overall one-off intake be?
hopefully we'll hear from dutton soon.

New South Wales Premier Mike Baird has left open the possibility of Australia accepting more than 10,000 extra Syrian refugees.

Only 1000? WA is half of Australia!

As I said not a huge offer, but it's a start and I think - or at least I hope - he was meaning 1000 extra migrants
I don't think the area of WA has much bearing on the situation - a large part of WA is uninhabitable desert.. It's more a question of financial capacity to look after an extra 1000 refugees - which, in part equates to population, i.e taxpayers, able to carry the burden.

There was also a lovely letter in today's West Australian for a Richard Charlesworth (I think he is Rick Charlesworth the ex hockey player and coach) offering to personally sponsor and assist a refugee family and challenging others to do the same.

How would he feel about sponsoring a group of young agressive men?

As an ex hockey coach and international player, I doubt whether it would bother him. I imagine he had to handle quite a few aggressive young men during his career.

The offer was to sponsor a refugee FAMILY....how many families would consist of a group of aggressive young men?
