General Motors has announced that Holden will close down for good in Australia.

The business has been hampered by highly fragmented right-hand-drive markets, the economics of growing the brand,

and poor return-on-investment.

yeah, I know, lol. Way out of reach for about 95% of the population.

Once the new electric and driverless cars come in, I think it will be the end of car ownership for most. Share-riding could be the "thing".

I really don't think so.

Some get behind the wheel to drive to the - supermarket - school - wherever.

There will still be those - who enjoy the thrill of just driving - same as horse riding - bike riding.

Putting a car through its paces.

There is more to ' driving ' than just a to b.

Of course. But with all the new technology, will it be affordable?

Re: The End of Holden in Australia

OH was a staunch Holden man.

I recall when PM Tony Abbott said the  Australian Government would not continue to subsidise car makers

with tax payers money.  Estimated at  $12 billion over a two decade period and Holden required more.

OH predicted it would end the car manufacturing in Australia, the Commodore was  traded in 4 years ago.
