Dead fish in Qld linked to trawler nets
A large number of dead fish that washed up on southeast Queensland beaches are believed to have been unintentionally caught in trawler nets.
Dozens of dead puffer fish, also known as toadfish, have been washing up on Bundaberg beaches, including Mon Repos, Elliott Heads and Bargara.
The Queensland Seafood Industry Association says the fish were bycatch from trawlers' nets.
"Toadfish numbers are in plague proportions at the moment," president Michael Gardner told AAP.
"These fish will float if they get caught up in the trawl nets and inevitably wash up on the beach."
He said trawlers have been obeying regulations and use bycatch limiting devices.
