Happy Australia Day Snotties !!!
Hawk, the planes could not land or take off - zero visibility. Also planes from Sydney could not take off to get to the Gold Coast because of the torrential rain.
They were in holding patterns around the CG then diverted to Brisbane and then they started to cancel them. After a while there was an announcement that the airport was closed for the day and we all had to leave (they didn't close it but that is what they said).
There were lots of distressed people. I was lucky compared to most as I could come back to my sister's home but they had to fend for themselves with NO help or direction except for a phone number to phone to rebook and that number was engaged for several hours, so those with only a mobile phone may have had battery problems.
It was utter chaos, a bit like a scene from reality TV airport shows, Thousands of people in long queues, no communication, luggage being checked in, only to have to be reclaimed from a carousel after the flight was cancelled, etc. etc.
I will be glad when I get home 🙂
