Given what they have endured over a number of centuries, I doubt most African-Americans will regard the fallout from the incident as little more than a slap in the face to their reputation and credibility. Oh and BTW, of the three actors you praise, Denzil and Samuel have both played the roles of blood thirsty murderers in Oscar winning movies. And Morgan is still under investigation following complaints of sexual misconduct by eight women in 2017. Great role models for the African-American children, hey!

You, Chameleon54 and Tasfluer are the only oneโ€™s  mentioning race. (Tasfluer kudo your post, so it stands to reason she agrees with you! )

No-one is even suggesting that this has EVER been about race. How on earth do you come to that conclusion?

Chris Rock didnโ€™t say *Jada, looking forward to black GI Jane2!*
And Will Smith never said *Keep my wifeโ€™s name outta your black F******ing mouth*!!!

So, the fact that both these men, are of colour, you suddenly bring race into it?

You all should just take a minute and think about that for a moment!!!!

My post is about perception. There are indeed people who cannot stand to see an African American make good of himself. And I don't like Smith or Rock.

BTW: The fact is,  some of the media is making this about race.

I don't like Will Smith and I don't like Chris Rock either. It's sad that Smith resorted to this type of behaviour. Actually I'm more annoyed with the profanity that came out of his mouth twice!

Smith does deserve the award for a job well done. He played the part of an important man but he's now cheapened his work in the eyes of others in taking the bait.  This is a blow for African American actors and their credibility! For those who think the hard work has been done by the like of Denzil, Morgan and Samuel, they should look back in history to when things stared to happen for African Americans in film. The back breaking work was done by William Marshall , Sidney PoitierPercy Rodrigues , Al Freeman , and Yaphet Kotto .

IMO these ground-breaking, pioneering actors had more class and presence than any actor Caucasian, African American or otherwise back then and even today!

There are people waiting to pounce on what Smith has done. They want African Americans to look like they are unprofessional. He didn't help either but now the nasties feel they have an excuse.

Speaking of colour - some true colours have shone here.

My post was about media and stoking the perception. Sadly there are will be those who will use this as an excuse to say ... "The Negro messed up again".  The media will use this as an excuse to polarize opinions as well.

And I wasn't  praising those three actors when I said .. .. ..  " For those who think the hard work has been done by the like of Denzil, Morgan and Samuel"

I didn't know about Freeman's issue with those 8 women. And with regard to your statement, "Denzil and Samuel have both played the roles of blood thirsty murderers ".  They have also played positive and heroic roles.  Anyway, I'm not here to endorse of praise them. They are not my favourite actors anyway.

Well, today and in  the recent past,  many actors in Hollywood regardless of their race would at some stage in their career play "the roles of blood thirsty murderers". This is what the entertainment business is all about.

I was  how ever praising the actors here in this list with  .. .. .. "they should look back in history to when things stared to happen for African Americans in film. The back breaking work was done by William Marshall , Sidney PoitierPercy Rodrigues , Al Freeman , and Yaphet Kotto" .

I should have added Ivan Dixon, Don Marshall, LLoyd Haines, Bernie Hamilton and Louis Gossett, Jnr. to that list.

janeababe, I have never ever even mentioned the word "race",  indeed, I have not even joined this discussion;  only reading the differences in opinion.  Where I do agree with 4channel, is with this sentence, and I quote:

"They want African Americans to look like they are unprofessional. He didn't help either but now the nasties feel they have an excuse"

Indeed, I have not even posted in this discussion until right now;  only choosing to observe the differences in those opinions and not wishing to participate.

When I 'kudo' a post, it is because it may contain what I consider significantly important (to me), but that doesn't mean that I agree with the whole post.  In  text only format, it becomes difficult to sort out what can be seen to be juxtaposed with rational and irrational.

I know what racism is and how it so cunningly can be also used/abused on both sides of the fence.

In the case of Smith and Rock, I really don't care about such idiocies and behaviours that mean nothing in reality, but says everything about how flawed the human condition is, no matter what colour, creed or race.

Tas - I'm sorry but I cannot agree with that comment of 4c.

"They want African Americans to look like they are unprofessional. He didn't help either but now the nasties feel they have an excuse"

Will Smith has been a respected member in the business since 1986 - pretty much professional.

Perhaps when one gives ' helpfuls ' - it is assumed the entire post is applauded - so -  maybe a comment on a single part would be the better option.

Good to see you.

Hi Dom, I can't argue with that, I'll take that on board for the future thank you.

It seems that professionalism can be such a seesaw in terms of who people really are, particularly actors;  I believe they are usually  able to hide their real life characters and personalities so well, and from that point of view, I would agree that that is necessary for privacy given their chosen careers .
