The Reigning Cats and Dogs Names of the Year

QUESTION one: Why must people give their pets human names?

Question two: Which Twilight character is top dog?

Question three: Twilight. Really?

We found the answers to these puzzling queries in a comprehensive survey of 2.5 million dogs and cats conducted in the US state of Oregon, Discovery News reports.

Portland's Banfield Pet Hospital tallied the top names from 2012 and came up with 10 most popular monikers for our most popular family pets.

[Enough. Take me to the list. Now.]

OH always says if we got a dog it would be a German Shepherd and he would call it Schultz. We would also get a ginger tabby cat and call it Ranga.

I love reading about the names people give to their pets .. and farm animals ..:-D

Pene the kitty - I tell people I named her Pene (Penny) because she cost us a pretty penny ($1000). We weren't even shopping for a cat that day. We were shopping for a lounge suite. We walked past the pet shop and fell in love with this little kitten all alone in the glass cage. The lounge suite had to wait until we saved up our pennies again.

Why I spelt her name "Pene" I have no idea. It confused the bejeezes out of my vet in the beginning. He kept called her "Penne" like the pasta.

Thai the kitty - My daughter had just come back from Thailand when we adopted this little black Persian. We adopted him with Beau because Thai was Beau's hearing buddy and looked after him, grooming his face before bedtime and showing him what to do to be a normal kitty.

Beau the deaf kitty - little kitty bred by a bad breeder trying to get the "extreme flat face" of a Persian. He was going to be put to sleep. His "pedigree name" included the name Beau. It suits him.

Critters are so funny, what they'll answer to. We used to say "where's the dog" and she'd come running. Sunday mornings "I'm going for a paper" she'd come running. "Where's the leash" she'd start sproing sproing sproing jumping like a mad dog, tongue hanging out.

When she went to doggy heaven, we, the ex and me, had split up. He got a new dog and started calling her the way he used to call Jojo (Josephine), but it just didn't work

The new dog is a pretty girl but very norti and wants to lick all the time. I hate that in a dog.

In the end her called her Licky-Licky and that's what she answers to.

She's stopped a bit with the licking now and she's bearable to pat.

My cousin named a cat Strop after the John Cornell character.  Meanest toughest cat I ever saw, like the one in the Footrot Flats comics.  Eventually lost a fight with a brown snake.
