The Ruby Princess Leaves Australia!

The Ruby Princess has commenced its departure from Port Kembla, south of Sydney, breaking its moorings on the start of a highly anticipated journey out of Australian waters.

Since it first docked in Sydney Harbour five weeks ago, 21 Australians who were connected to the coronavirus-afflicted cruise ship have died.

A huge banner hanging off the stern of the ship read: "Thankyou Illawarra", referring to the location where the cruise ship has been docked since April 6.

Which is why, when a massive delivery of care packages turned up at the docks of Port Kembla on Tuesday afternoon, they decided to pay it forward and make a safe home a reality for someone in the region which has supported them.

Thank you for posting a positive story.

I have hopes that they change it's name in the near future.

Some mariners will say it is bad luck to change a name, others will say it can be done by following time honored traditions.

Legend /  superstition has it that the name must be purged from the ledger of the deep and from the mind of Poseidon

in a ceremony.

I can not find online record but i recall this evening being mentioned on the news that the owner's of the ship donated a significant sum of money to the charity that organised distribution of food packs in support of the crew
