"This is for the Senior members of CS, those born before 1947. Baby Boomers and Generations X & Y are welcome providing you are over 18 ๐
But this is definitely for people who are facing the last long haul. We have survived babyhood, childhood, being teens and twenties... We have learned to read and write, to drive, have probably been married and the women have survived child birth.
The challenges are constant and the near misses of death are also there. If we have become a senior we have learned to survive so much, and along the way we have, of course, gathered a great deal of knowledge about life.
The belief that age diminishes us is not true, it changes us and not all of it is bad. Yes there can be various forms of dementia for some, but that is also a disease that can happen in younger people. Alzheimer's can also occur - it is another form of dementia and generally occurs in people over 65, although that can occur much earlier too and not everyone is going to get it.
Most of us keep our mental alertness up to the moment of death, even if we lose our hearing and our eyesight, but of course this can happen at any age too.
What changes is our physical strength, which diminishes but our mental strength and patience grows, it has to of course, to deal with this aging thing.
Arthritis, heart trouble, strokes - all these things associated with age can happen at any time in your life - arthritis can happen when you are a child but they don't like giving out new hips and knees until you are in your 50s and 60s or later. We can talk about that too.
Cancer can happen any time and that is also something we can discuss here if you like.
The point of this thread is to give the Seniors a chance to talk about how they are coping with age, the challenges it presents and the fears that can come with it... loss of hearing or sight, aging spouses, living alone, retirement villages, even death...
So I will ask that the Juniors treat us in kindly fashion and remember, all this is going to happen to you too - providing you avoid death before you get here ๐
So, onward and upward. Let's go...."

Brrrrrrrrr,Grandmoon. I just got back from the beach on the NSW mid coast. Mind you, we have had an awful winter like everyone else.
Darki....my bestie has arthritis in her spine...suffers terribly. Her chiro recommended that she get one of those pump up exercise balls from K-mart. She thought the idea was silly. However, she got one....used it per instructions....very sore the first 48 hrs...THEN a vast improvement in mobility and pain control with no drugs. She now swears by it. Just thought I would mention it. She paid $17 for the ball and the pump..

still breathing...
No darki it wasn't an ambulance just a small sedan, driven by a 60ish man....OH reckons he was older than him:O.....they have various cars and drivers, so you never get the same one twice....well haven't yet. It's not free....$20 for this trip which is quite a way away to a hospital diabetic clinic to visit the podiatrist for his toe ulcer.... it costs that much in petrol for us to do it, and then we can NEVER find a parking spot at the hospital. I either park illegally or just drive round and round for half an hour. Car park is always full. Much easier all round. Well it was except for this old speedster. Puts me off a bit...not safe at all.
Well a brilliant idea gil, but no not with a speedster.. that is a worry... report him?

We didn't call them City Mobbers....more like 'Westies" think my kids did the same.
Ha Gilly. We surfers weren't discriminatory....city mobbers were anybody who had to cross the bridge to get to Manly, including those from the eastern suburbs.
I hope all you out there are OK. Beautiful day here. After I have done a load of washI am going to the beach to catch some Vitamin D. I was getting cabin fever with all the weather we have been having.
... or come over by ferry :^O
I must get outside today for some Vit D too

I think they can be a good idea but I used one last year in the gym and came off it rather badly.. have wondered if it was the last straw for my back. I also have a curvature of the lumbar spine and a missing disc so I suppose you could say I'm behind the 8 ball :^O
I did go to remedial massage the other day and that helped a great deal, she also mentioned that one way to keep pain under control is to put a pinch of bi-carb in your drinking water.
It's alkaline and so reduces the acid build up that is caused by the pain... that works well too ๐

Very cold moon... we have had snow on Mount Wellington and so it's been sort of icy down here, but not over the past few days, which have been a wonderful 15ห... back outside for me ๐
