The Seniors Thread :-)

"This is for the Senior members of CS, those born before 1947. Baby Boomers and Generations X & Y are welcome providing you are over 18 🙂

But this is definitely for people who are facing the last long haul.  We have survived babyhood, childhood, being teens and twenties... We have learned to read and write, to drive, have probably been married and the women have survived child birth.

The challenges are constant and the near misses of death are also there.  If we have become a senior we have learned to survive so much, and along the way we have, of course, gathered a great deal of knowledge about life.

The  belief that age diminishes us is not true, it changes us and not all of it is bad.  Yes there can be various forms of dementia for some, but that is also a disease that can happen in younger people.  Alzheimer's can also occur - it is another form of dementia and generally occurs in people over 65, although that can occur much earlier too and not everyone is going to get it.

Most of us keep our mental alertness up to the moment of death, even if we lose our hearing and our eyesight, but of course this can happen at any age too.

What changes is our physical strength, which diminishes but our mental strength and patience grows, it has to of course, to deal with this aging thing.

Arthritis, heart trouble, strokes - all these things associated with age can happen at any time in your life - arthritis can happen when you are a child but they don't like giving out new hips and knees until you are in your 50s and 60s or later.  We can talk about that too.

Cancer can happen any time and that is also something we can discuss here if you like.

The point of this thread is to give the Seniors a chance to talk about how they are coping with age, the challenges it presents and the fears that can come with it... loss of hearing or sight, aging spouses, living alone, retirement villages, even death...

So I will ask that the Juniors treat us in kindly fashion and remember, all this is going to happen to you too - providing you avoid death before you get here 🙂

So, onward and upward.  Let's go...."

Re: The Seniors Thread :-)

Howdy fellow gerries.

Little man has gone home now.

Mummy and daddy are exhausted from moving. I said I would have him tonight if they liked, but they missed him too much.

Yesterday Desi and I made Daddy's fathers day present.

Recipe. 1 cup of plain flour, 1/4 cup of salt and enough water to make a a thick dough. Mix roll out, stand child on mix, press down feet, remove feet, place in oven ( micture not feet) and bake on low for hours, about three or so.

I added a bit of blue colouring to the writing, and to help his little feet stand out a bit. It is hard to get an impression of the Des man's feet because he can't flatten them properly.

He needs surgery to do that. I was going for the hand prints. Like that was going to happen, he just grabbed great handfuls of the mix lol.

Anyhoo here it is.

Re: The Seniors Thread :-)

Good morning gerries 🙂

I would love to have seen you making footprints with that young man channy...  so no luck with hand prints eh?  Hahaha!

What fun trying tho.

So now we almost have a crim in our lot eh?  Roadside selling ... gill you really are norty :^O  Good thing you're in QLD.

We still have roadside selling down here, things like buckets of jonquils and daffodils abound, but they run on an honest policy with people leaving money in the bucket when they buy the flowers.

I have often wondered if the money ever makes it home.  I suppose it does because they keep doing it.

Still a pretty honest pack of people down here generally speaking.

Gosh!  the sun is shining into the room and showing up all the cobwebs and dust.  Do I close the curtains or do some spring cleaning?

:^O

Good morning gerries:-)

I have noticed in my travels around the hills, some of those that sell flowers, just have a bucket out for the money, they have been doing it for yrs. so must get something out of it.

Going to be a beautiful sunny day here 21deg.............I just love spring, when all the new leaves appear on trees and the blossoms are out and we get to see the sun!

Have a good all.

Re: The Seniors Thread :-)

Spring is lovely down here too purple, my willow trees are in the first flush of lime green leaves and today it's going to be 19˚.. Yipee!

Am waiting to hear from my son, they might get an offer today... just hope the people don't play ducks and drakes with the offer and muck around too much.

Keep all your fingers and toes crossed please 🙂
