"This is for the Senior members of CS, those born before 1947. Baby Boomers and Generations X & Y are welcome providing you are over 18 ๐
But this is definitely for people who are facing the last long haul. We have survived babyhood, childhood, being teens and twenties... We have learned to read and write, to drive, have probably been married and the women have survived child birth.
The challenges are constant and the near misses of death are also there. If we have become a senior we have learned to survive so much, and along the way we have, of course, gathered a great deal of knowledge about life.
The belief that age diminishes us is not true, it changes us and not all of it is bad. Yes there can be various forms of dementia for some, but that is also a disease that can happen in younger people. Alzheimer's can also occur - it is another form of dementia and generally occurs in people over 65, although that can occur much earlier too and not everyone is going to get it.
Most of us keep our mental alertness up to the moment of death, even if we lose our hearing and our eyesight, but of course this can happen at any age too.
What changes is our physical strength, which diminishes but our mental strength and patience grows, it has to of course, to deal with this aging thing.
Arthritis, heart trouble, strokes - all these things associated with age can happen at any time in your life - arthritis can happen when you are a child but they don't like giving out new hips and knees until you are in your 50s and 60s or later. We can talk about that too.
Cancer can happen any time and that is also something we can discuss here if you like.
The point of this thread is to give the Seniors a chance to talk about how they are coping with age, the challenges it presents and the fears that can come with it... loss of hearing or sight, aging spouses, living alone, retirement villages, even death...
So I will ask that the Juniors treat us in kindly fashion and remember, all this is going to happen to you too - providing you avoid death before you get here ๐
So, onward and upward. Let's go...."

bump back terra :^O
Moon are you doing Ancestry? if so, it's fascinating isn't it.
I have hit a brick wall with my g.g.greatgrandfather on my father's side of the family.
It seems they lived in Durham but there are no records of them doing so... I am beginning to suspect they are refugees from the battles between the Scots and the English and escaped the border to settle quietly in Durham without stiring up any dust.
It used to happen but it has left me with no way to turn ๐
Terra, you would know your family's names - your mother and father's names... have you thought of tracing your ancestry?
The reason I ask is it occurred to me that it would be a wonderful way of re-connecting with your family and ancestors and even, perhaps learning of some of the difficulties they survived, as you have. Just a thought ๐
All my ancestors are of European origin and some of them were even executed in the Tower of London ๐ฎ
Well I am hoping the local police officer will contact me today and we can see if there is something I can do about the neighbours.

Police? about what? what are they up to??
Morning Gilly
It looks like the poloce may have taken Darki with them

No moon I iz here :^O Gil I have had on going trouble with the bloke next door and Harry barking.
I have spent something like $3,000 to make it hard for Harry to see them and bark, but they have two dogs and so it isn't always possible.
C loses the plot and becomes abusive. He has hyped Harry up on so many occasions that Harry picks him out as The Person To Bark At.
I did finally tell C that any more and I would report him.
Of course there was more so I went up to see the Kingston police. Told them the whole story and he referred it on to the local one man police station down here.
He has taken it seriously, but can't do a lot without it enraging the situation more, BUT as C is an unlicensed gun owner and spends his time shooting rabbits and wallabies in an area that threatens other houses, the police has suggested I talk to those people and let them know that it would be a good thing to report him!
So that's what that was all about ๐ I will follow through as this man does need to be stopped.
In the meantime I am having a reporter and photographer here today to do a special feature on the property for the Real Estate Guide which they want to do and asked if they could do. It will give me about $4,000 worth of advertisement for free and we will have another open house again on Saturday week following the publication.
Buzy buzy buzy :^O

Hi Darki, my parents have both passed away so I have no-one to ask about my ancestors. I am first generation Aussie and I have Italian heritage.
on โ24-10-2012 05:36 PM
Everyone's back grounds are so interesting.
I was an immigrant at age three and a half and I took citizenship at age 11 along with my parents, same day.
If anyone is interested I posted some pics on my thread...cute ones of shatzi

Hope you are having a good day, I was yanked back to the doc today..results of tests a real pain to me ggrrrrrr.

darki you are a brave woman...
but you cant let them do that to poor harry...
shatzi has the kids next door pushing food and cig butts under the fence... mckool had to go next door and talk to the guy... we hear him yelling at his kids to leave our dog alone... of course, they dont. grrrrrr
shatzi is only doing her job.... but I am getting to know all the different barks she has and she barks quite differently at these kids to other noises or people...
as you say, the neighbours hype them up.

but terra you have their names and dates of birth. That is all you need to start.
You will have, maybe photos? or letters? Maybe your Dad left you some things?
Ancestry is pretty good at digging up the past and Italy has a huge amount of records due to their enormous history.
Of course not all your ancestors will be Italian, they will have moved around and you could find you have ancestors all over Europe, especially as Rome, did for something like 400 years, ruled nearly all of Europe.
If you chose you might find you would be surprised.. At least you could give it a go and see what happens.. you might be surprised. ๐
Well my son has sold his house AT LONG LAST and will be down here at the beginning of February... of course their dog will be down here on the 18th January to stay with us, so that will be fun :^O
