The Seniors Thread :-)

"This is for the Senior members of CS, those born before 1947. Baby Boomers and Generations X & Y are welcome providing you are over 18 ๐Ÿ™‚

But this is definitely for people who are facing the last long haul.  We have survived babyhood, childhood, being teens and twenties... We have learned to read and write, to drive, have probably been married and the women have survived child birth.

The challenges are constant and the near misses of death are also there.  If we have become a senior we have learned to survive so much, and along the way we have, of course, gathered a great deal of knowledge about life.

The  belief that age diminishes us is not true, it changes us and not all of it is bad.  Yes there can be various forms of dementia for some, but that is also a disease that can happen in younger people.  Alzheimer's can also occur - it is another form of dementia and generally occurs in people over 65, although that can occur much earlier too and not everyone is going to get it.

Most of us keep our mental alertness up to the moment of death, even if we lose our hearing and our eyesight, but of course this can happen at any age too.

What changes is our physical strength, which diminishes but our mental strength and patience grows, it has to of course, to deal with this aging thing.

Arthritis, heart trouble, strokes - all these things associated with age can happen at any time in your life - arthritis can happen when you are a child but they don't like giving out new hips and knees until you are in your 50s and 60s or later.  We can talk about that too.

Cancer can happen any time and that is also something we can discuss here if you like.

The point of this thread is to give the Seniors a chance to talk about how they are coping with age, the challenges it presents and the fears that can come with it... loss of hearing or sight, aging spouses, living alone, retirement villages, even death...

So I will ask that the Juniors treat us in kindly fashion and remember, all this is going to happen to you too - providing you avoid death before you get here ๐Ÿ™‚

So, onward and upward.  Let's go...."

Re: The Seniors Thread :-)

Oh Gil ๐Ÿ˜ž  dear me... I do hope you haven't broken a rib, there isn't a lot they can do other than strap it firmly.  Pain killers and rest ...

I've had a couple of falls lately, but thankfully only bruised.  I took a great tumble in the garden and flattened a lot of poppy plants then again climbing through next door's temporary fence to deal with my electric fence that they won't do any maintenance on.. it would help if they would just cut their grass down on that side, but then, they do nothing so I am henny penny and just do it myself.

More bruises :^O

Happy gs-ing Richo ๐Ÿ™‚

Gil. Hope that you are feeling better. Can you have the surface of those tiles scratched or ground in any way for a better grip?

Re: The Seniors Thread :-)

home now....xrays etc.  fell last Tuesday on those damned tiles..yes Jean, there is a process where they 'etch' the tiles to give them more grip....Will try and have it done in the NYear. I should have been taking panadol every 4 hours instead of "cracking hardy" and breathing shallow to relieve the pain...which left me in danger of a collapsed lung due to lack of full inflation. So will be from now on.  They're not sure whether I cracked a rib, but think there's no damage to my lung.   Can do without this crap.

Re: The Seniors Thread :-)

was a great joy lying there in hospital,, listening to the 3 other occupants in my ward barking like seals and coughing till they were given a mask of ventolin...gasping for breath.....I suspect they might have been smokers at one stage:-(

Re: The Seniors Thread :-)

Gill my dear... just take it easy and yes, you do have to keep your lungs clear with deep breaths even when it hurts.

The hurts won't do your ribs any harm it's just bluddy painful.

Glad you're home again and if the pain gets too bad then go on to Panadeine... one every 5 hours should hold it, but be aware of constipation.

I take them for my back as I can't move easily without them.

Go easy friend, don't like to think of you doing yourself damage. ;-( xxx
