"This is for the Senior members of CS, those born before 1947. Baby Boomers and Generations X & Y are welcome providing you are over 18 ๐
But this is definitely for people who are facing the last long haul. We have survived babyhood, childhood, being teens and twenties... We have learned to read and write, to drive, have probably been married and the women have survived child birth.
The challenges are constant and the near misses of death are also there. If we have become a senior we have learned to survive so much, and along the way we have, of course, gathered a great deal of knowledge about life.
The belief that age diminishes us is not true, it changes us and not all of it is bad. Yes there can be various forms of dementia for some, but that is also a disease that can happen in younger people. Alzheimer's can also occur - it is another form of dementia and generally occurs in people over 65, although that can occur much earlier too and not everyone is going to get it.
Most of us keep our mental alertness up to the moment of death, even if we lose our hearing and our eyesight, but of course this can happen at any age too.
What changes is our physical strength, which diminishes but our mental strength and patience grows, it has to of course, to deal with this aging thing.
Arthritis, heart trouble, strokes - all these things associated with age can happen at any time in your life - arthritis can happen when you are a child but they don't like giving out new hips and knees until you are in your 50s and 60s or later. We can talk about that too.
Cancer can happen any time and that is also something we can discuss here if you like.
The point of this thread is to give the Seniors a chance to talk about how they are coping with age, the challenges it presents and the fears that can come with it... loss of hearing or sight, aging spouses, living alone, retirement villages, even death...
So I will ask that the Juniors treat us in kindly fashion and remember, all this is going to happen to you too - providing you avoid death before you get here ๐
So, onward and upward. Let's go...."

:^O yes moon you are right.
He could also be right jean. Not to say he shouldn't have it checked out.
At the beginning of this year my back began to really play up. Until this time I had not really had any back trouble at all.
I had to give up gym and when I went to my chiropractor he took Xrays.
It turns out I have a curvature of the lumbar spine... that's the bit that goes from your waist (I can't find mine :^O) to your hips..
within that are a couple of missing discs and a whole lot of arthritis.
This has curbed my actions and interests drastically over this year. The chiro said there was little he could do to help it, the doctor said the same, so I finally took myself off to a remedial massager. She helped a bit BUT what I have found that does the trick is Panadeine!
I take ONE only, every 6 hours... never take more than 8 in 24 hours because they are dangerous.
Those 4, sometimes 5 Panadeine make life possible for me.
So if you can't get him to a doctor put him on Panadeine... just make sure he doesn't overdose or he'll hit serious trouble.
Also be aware that they do cause constipation, so he would have to take something for that until his body adjusted to them.
Of course if he wants to whinge then just don't mention it :^O
Darkie. You are amazing. After reading your post I showed it to OH. He spoke to the chemist who checked that it would not interfere with his meds and he gave him two on the spot. My husband said that the relief was evident with two hours. He has since taken another one and is so relieved at the result. The chemist repeated your advice about them causing the "trots":^O Thank you so much.:-x

That's wonderful jean, and I am so glad. I suspect he has arthritis just as I have... it won't go away and it does require constant pain relief and being sensible or you begin to feel you are heading for death row....
So glad the chemist gave him the advice and backed me up.
I should also say at this point that Panadeine Forte can only be bought if you have a script and then you get the whole deal of being bluddy careful with it. ๐
He will be a new man now :^O
I am going to attack the garden today. That sounds like a grand undertaking, but I can only manage an hour at a time now, so have decided I will get into it and hurl all the stuff on the grass and verandah until it's all done, and by then my mower man might come and can take the rubbish away for me :^O
Then again, he has warned me he won't be here until after Christmas.. how far away is Christmas? Oh, okay ... just under a fortnight... well I will see :^O

enjoy your lunch.....I'm hanging out for a Japanese meal....just got to find a restaurant.....we had a genuine one, but the owners have gone back to Japan..:-(
on โ11-12-2012 04:02 PM
Now isn't that typical gil, you find a nice Chinese or Japanese restaurant and they go home ๐
There are so few decent Asian restaurants down here that I think they all went home.
An enterprising Asian company would make a fortune down here with decent Asian food.
Gil you sound as if you have the old style electrical board, pulling plugs etc... time for a new one me thinks ๐
Still gardening, it's not going to stop any time soon ๐

Busy day for you moon...
The garden is 'getting there' purple, but it is slow work, the place is like a jungle. I have had two trailer loads to the tip and another one on the way.
Taking the day off today to go to the gym Christmas break up, like moon. Then shopping and home again.
More gardening tomorrow.
