"This is for the Senior members of CS, those born before 1947. Baby Boomers and Generations X & Y are welcome providing you are over 18 🙂
But this is definitely for people who are facing the last long haul. We have survived babyhood, childhood, being teens and twenties... We have learned to read and write, to drive, have probably been married and the women have survived child birth.
The challenges are constant and the near misses of death are also there. If we have become a senior we have learned to survive so much, and along the way we have, of course, gathered a great deal of knowledge about life.
The belief that age diminishes us is not true, it changes us and not all of it is bad. Yes there can be various forms of dementia for some, but that is also a disease that can happen in younger people. Alzheimer's can also occur - it is another form of dementia and generally occurs in people over 65, although that can occur much earlier too and not everyone is going to get it.
Most of us keep our mental alertness up to the moment of death, even if we lose our hearing and our eyesight, but of course this can happen at any age too.
What changes is our physical strength, which diminishes but our mental strength and patience grows, it has to of course, to deal with this aging thing.
Arthritis, heart trouble, strokes - all these things associated with age can happen at any time in your life - arthritis can happen when you are a child but they don't like giving out new hips and knees until you are in your 50s and 60s or later. We can talk about that too.
Cancer can happen any time and that is also something we can discuss here if you like.
The point of this thread is to give the Seniors a chance to talk about how they are coping with age, the challenges it presents and the fears that can come with it... loss of hearing or sight, aging spouses, living alone, retirement villages, even death...
So I will ask that the Juniors treat us in kindly fashion and remember, all this is going to happen to you too - providing you avoid death before you get here 🙂
So, onward and upward. Let's go...."

Who remembers The Shadow?
(in a deep voice)...."Who knows what lurks in the hearts of men?
The Shadow knows. The Shadow, alias Lamont Cranston......."
And Old Nancy the Witch of Salem......"as we gaze into the embers of the fire....the story begins......"

sorry freshwater, but I have to laugh, he was the LONE ranger, not the LOAN ranger... they are the people who want your money ....
I'm having a good laugh too Darki. I wonder if there is something freudian in there. B-) Maybe something to do with the mask.
Yes I expect so :^O
Hey! I can name some things that have improved since we were born...
The Dentist for one, what a relief 🙂
Surgery is better and we now can have knee/hip replacements.
More people are surviving cancer...
Heart and lung transplants
The planes get us around the world faster
Emails are faster than snail mail 😉
My grandmother scoffed when she was a girl because they were going to try to fly a plane from London to Paris... 😮
I remember my grandparents having a party line for their phone and one had to check the other people weren't using the phone before you could ring someone.
My Grandparents with their two daughters were booked on the Lusitania but missed it before the trans Canadian train was running late ... phew!
My mother was born two years before the Titanic sank.

My Grandfather an Australian soldier met my Grandmother in England while he was recuperating after being injured in France during WW1.
They were married in England before returning to Melbourne after the war. My Mother was born in England, she was 6 weeks old when they left England.
Mum would have a big laugh when people who found out she was born in England would ask her what she remember from the Old Country.

I loved comics....never had any of my own but used to read a girl friends..
The Phantom was a favourite and we sent away for skull rings....my friend and I formed a 'secret' club and the password/thingo was a key from an old sardine tin....remember how you used to put the key (had a sllit in it) into the overhanging lip of the tin and roll it back to open the sardines....my friends parents owned an hotel (since burned down) and used to have bed and breakfast etc. they must have served a hell of a lot of sardines cos there was a huge pile of them in the garbage tip. It was a 2 story building and the building next door was very close....so close that we girls could just step across through an open window from the upstairs balcony ...we used to have a Jim's Gym...lol ...over there....about 10 we were...such imagination...the room was vacant, except for us...often wondered what the owners thought of us 'invading' their upstairs room.

Oh yes comics. We'd have big swap meetings among our gang. . I loved the Phantom too.... and Buck Rogers, Prince Valiant, True Romance (up to a point though thought a lot of it was soppy), Captain Marvel, Hopalong Cassidy. ....
Bliss was going to bed early with a glass of milk, a huge chunk of chokky cake, and a pile of new comics.
Also Darki, some other things that it's nice to have now ... ..
Electric blankets
Frozen meals
Tim Tams ;-).
