"This is for the Senior members of CS, those born before 1947. Baby Boomers and Generations X & Y are welcome providing you are over 18 🙂
But this is definitely for people who are facing the last long haul. We have survived babyhood, childhood, being teens and twenties... We have learned to read and write, to drive, have probably been married and the women have survived child birth.
The challenges are constant and the near misses of death are also there. If we have become a senior we have learned to survive so much, and along the way we have, of course, gathered a great deal of knowledge about life.
The belief that age diminishes us is not true, it changes us and not all of it is bad. Yes there can be various forms of dementia for some, but that is also a disease that can happen in younger people. Alzheimer's can also occur - it is another form of dementia and generally occurs in people over 65, although that can occur much earlier too and not everyone is going to get it.
Most of us keep our mental alertness up to the moment of death, even if we lose our hearing and our eyesight, but of course this can happen at any age too.
What changes is our physical strength, which diminishes but our mental strength and patience grows, it has to of course, to deal with this aging thing.
Arthritis, heart trouble, strokes - all these things associated with age can happen at any time in your life - arthritis can happen when you are a child but they don't like giving out new hips and knees until you are in your 50s and 60s or later. We can talk about that too.
Cancer can happen any time and that is also something we can discuss here if you like.
The point of this thread is to give the Seniors a chance to talk about how they are coping with age, the challenges it presents and the fears that can come with it... loss of hearing or sight, aging spouses, living alone, retirement villages, even death...
So I will ask that the Juniors treat us in kindly fashion and remember, all this is going to happen to you too - providing you avoid death before you get here 🙂
So, onward and upward. Let's go...."

Sheesh, I gave the correct answer first....why don' t you pick me?:^O
Just for the record....the question is "how many esses in that?"...answer is there are no esses in the word that.
The first part I saw..etc is just a smokescreen.:^O
It's funny isn't it - I had not heard that joke for a zillion years and yet still remembered the answer.. I must be going into old age where we remember the far past more easily than the near past 😞
Do you remember this one:
A man is looking in a mirror and is saying to himself "Brothers and sisters have I none, yet that man's father is my father's son"

HI darkie and everyone:)
The only reason I never came in before was because I dont make the cut...born decades apart...but I hope I am welcome anyway:)
I am sad that the cancer thread is gone, it was a very important thread for me, as Mum is not in remission anymore. There are now 7 tumors in her lungs.
But this thread is a good idea, as long as non-seniors are welcome too 🙂
Have a good weekend 🙂

Beani you are always welcome and you can be counted among us because your mum would be nearer our age and she is having one hell of a time of it - so are you ((((hugs))))
I am so sorry there are more tumours and she must be having a rotten time with it all 😞
We will all give you whatever support we can I'm sure xxxx

No one has answered my question(s) 😞
Oh well, good morning all, and happy Sunday.
I think my modem is working now. It must have got a fright when it realised another one was on the way... now I will have two.
Might hang on to the second one until I am sure this one is really working.
Talking of Beani and her poor mother, how many here have experienced cancer in their lives?
Just a passing question, you don't have to answer, but it put me in mind of a very old woman I nursed in a retirement home. She was 92 at the time and must had had breast cancer years and years before, because she was missing both breasts, as I am now.
What I do wonder is how long ago did she go through that operation and I think back then it was something of a miracle that she survived to the old age that she did.
If I go back and recall I knew her in 1969 and she was 92 then, that means she was born in 1877.
So if we consider she might have had cancer when she was, say 50, then that would have been back in 1927!
My word that is a long time ago. Her scars were old, not fresh ones of just a few years... I never knew when I would bathe her that one day I would be the same 🙂
Just a personal memory of when I was a young 30 year old. 🙂

morning all.....
Just about to get off here and do some of my painting.
At art class last week I managed to paint one tree, instead of swathes of grass and some water, so it's on to another very large tree...I sketched it so now to try to remember what I was copying.. the tree i.e. just an excercise to learn how to paint with acrylics, which I'd never done before....it dries so fast, which is good in a way, but not when you're as slow as me.

Darki, I used to know this one but it's sooo hot here and my brain is like glue (that's my excuse anywaylol). I think it's the grandson looking in the mirror? Um no I don't think it's right. It's the son?
It's a good one ........ please put me out of my misery I'm gonna chew over it all day.
Kengillard that's great you've started painting, I think you'll love it. As far as acrylics go I think you can buy a retarder for them ..... it slows down the drying process. Or you can just keep painting over the picture which you can't do so much with oils. I've got a very big acrylic painting I did for the loungeroom and every time I get sick of it i just paint over it. lol.
