The Struggle ..

A constant struggle past down through the years
maintaining our freedom through blood sweat and tears
The earliest settlers hauled over our convict slave stock
to our shores then set earnest cutting logs 'n breaking rock,
the Koori were free to do as they pleased
so those in chains were mocked 'n playfully teased.

As we grew and the slaves were set free
to go and make lives, clear land, work the sea,
earning their freedom yet remembering the taunts,
with the cat-o-nine tails and it's memory that haunts.
Ingrained against oppression our nation marches on
united with the Koori since we fessed up passed wrongs,
the taste of freedom in the air of our Isle
floats from coast to coast mile after mile.

Free to help mates when the chips are down
Free to acknowledge there's no need for the crown
Free to debate the good and the bad
yet smart enough to know

..the rest of the world has gone mad.

The Struggle ..

Yes, very thought-provoking bushy.

"Its memory that haunts" is so true.
