Here are a few pictures of Franklin Square in Hobart.

I am not sure of the details of this picture or when it was taken..............I would love this as a print to hang on my wall.

And it is just as beautiful of a night time.

When our children were little we used to take them into Franklin Square and let them run around the outside of the fountain while we ate a picnic lunch.....................we took our grandchildren there a few weeks ago.............and children still love to run around the fountain.

In Franklin Square there is a tree that has a sign on it with the details of when it was planted.

Last month it celebrated it 150th birthday.

This is the guy it is believed "Fagin" was based on.

Isaac "Ikey" Solomon (1787-1850)

In 1827, Isaac Solomon escaped by drugging his jailers on his way to court. He went to the United States but the police were so incensed that they framed his wife, Ann, for receiving a stolen watch. She was sentenced 14 years in Van Diemen’s Land and arrived in June 1828.
Ikey had committed no crime in the colony so he travelled to Van Diemen’s Land then reunited with Ann and set up a tobacco shop in Hobart. He briefly enjoyed life in the colony as free man. But Governor Arthur, furious at the thought of having such a criminal walking around freely, pursued him relentlessly and eventually succeeded in having him kidnapped and sent to London for trial.
Convicted of receiving stolen goods, he was sent back to Van Diemen's Land as a convict but was never able to reunite the family. His physical and mental health declined and he died in 1850.

This is a picture of his store.......not one knows for sure if it is him in the window.....(source Founders and Survivors Lifelines)

I'll have to make more effort to catch up with you next time. Missed you last time. To be honest I didn't feel like catching up with anyone for a couple of years.   😄
