i have just seen an aticle on the 10 news about the price of a cup of coffee and people interviewed said they had 10 to 12 cups before lunch so they could get their caffeine fix, the cost must be enormous.
Now if that is not an addiction nothing is - if they are working when do they have time to have 10 to 12 cups beflore lunch.
How many do you have ? Me I drink hot chocolate and an accosional cup of tea, i don't drink coke or any other sugary fizzy drink

I have my very own barrista right here at home.
We have a de Longhi coffees machine and Mr Elephant cares for it like a baby. He has so many little rituals built around his coffee making I hardly dare to use the thing myself - but he but he does make a great brew. He brings me a cup in bed every morning and sometimes I have another one with breakfast and one in the afternoon with a biscuit or piece of cake - other than that I drink tea or water or sometimes ginger beer (but it has to Bundaberg diet ginger beer - it'd the only cool drink I like)

The only thing that should be wiped out with every new shot is the basket. There is no point wiping the group because the gunk build up is INSIDE the head. You can't reach it with a wipe. The only way to remove that gunk is to pull the head apart and scrub it screen inside. Takes about 10-15mins and is done at the end of the day/every couple of days.
Thats actually what I said, the filter basket inside the group head. And either a wipe or a rinse does the job ๐ Dunno bout 10 to 15 mins though. Maybe if it's getting a chemical clean. Should only take 5 or so minutes at the end of the day. No need to use any other detergents on the parts than the ones specifically formulated to clean coffee machines. Depending on the volume of coffee going through it, a couple of times a week with a chemical clean is plenty. Those chemicals can also taint the flavour of the coffee.
A dirty machine (either coffee residue in the basket or a large build up of oils in the group) will make your coffe taste bitter rather than burnt.
It's the after taste that I'm talking about. It's kinda like an ashtray (to me anyway) when the filter is dirty. The bitterness I've found comes more from the grind being to fine. If extraction takes more than 30 seconds then the grind is to fine, under 15 seconds and the grind is too course.
I detest burnt milk in my coffee, to me this just makes it taste like instant coffee, wishy washy....
In Australia we like our coffees scalding which is a problem.
It can be. I've been to cafes that refuse to serve extra hot coffees. They have a big speal about burning the milk and ruining the coffee etc etc.
I say if a customer wants extra hot, give them extra hot there are ways to serve it like that, they are just being pompous imo.

Sorry went a bit off topic there. My posts aren't really in relation to the price of coffee.
But I do prefer some of the cheaper brands of instant coffee. NQR does a big jar for $3.84, love it ๐

You can double that price over here in the West Martini, a coffee from either Dome, Muffin break, or even the drive throughs will cost at least $6:50!!!That's ridiculous. But those chains always charge more and the coffee is atrocious even over here in the East.
I shake my head when I see people with supersized coffe cups from Starbucks or Gloria Jeans. It's just hot water with some overpressed and overused coffee beans for flavouring. What is even more bewildering is when they can walk a few shops down and find a cafe with a real machine and proper barista.
Totally agree with the "It's just hot water with some overpressed and overused coffee beans for flavouring. " comment. GJ's and Starbucks coffee is over priced and overrated IMO.

Kind of off topic, but I like to get coffee from here when I can http://www.madcapcafe.org/about/ they are cafes that help people with mental illness and psychiatric or other disabilities train and get into the workforce. Their coffee is pretty good too.
I also noticed this at a cafe I went to recently http://www.suspendedcoffee.com.au/ you can prepay for a coffee or food and then people who cant afford or are possibly homeless can go in and recive a free coffee or meal. I hadnt seen that before, but they have quite a list of participants on the website.

I think the man said that he has two or three and that costs $8 to $12 a day. They were talking about the cost, not the amount of coffees.
Dunno, may have hear wrong but thought he said 10 to 12 coffees before lunch, still I wonder where he gets time to buy them if he is working for someone. If someone working for me had 3 or 4 coffee breaks before lunch they would be out the door.

Do you have any trouble getting channel 10? I can't get it until late at night. Through the day it says No Signal, and of an evening it's pixelated. SO annoying, I can't watch Biggest Loser.
