Are We Descending Into Barbarism?
An Australian socialist group has withdrawn newspapers depicting Tony Abbott getting his throat cut by a straight razor.
The grisly Red Flag cover, which was accompanied by the headline "One cut we'd like to see, attracted more than 200 comments – most of them negative – on publisher The Socialist Alternative's Facebook page overnight.
"Oh ... not cool. I'm no fan of the LNP — policies, parties, associates or leader — but this seems unnecessarily violent," one post read.
Another said: "dreadful picture. DO NOT CONDONE violence to anyone. Even Abbott. You LOST me off this page and as a supporter."
The group released a statement this morning defending the Michael Callaghan-inspired cover, but said "legal concerns" meant they would be withdrawing it all the same.

How long before we become like the US and the Middle East where democratically elected leaders are deposed and/or assassinated?

I think I am quite balanced in not taking an interest in any gutter press from either side. 🙂
yet you profess outrage at the gutter press from one side but not the other?

Perhaps you could refrain from telling others what to think and do.
Why is it sniping when posters don't agree with a certain viewpoint?

I respect anyone's informed viewpoint.
Taking potshots from the sidelines without having a real idea about the subject is not constructive.
Admittedly, I've done the same myself and have been shot down in flames for it, not unexpectedly.
Out of consideration for our past association, I've been as respectful as possible.

Perhaps reading only one side of the debate and then commenting on only that one side is not debate at all and just going with the bias that's shown re the discussion about the gutter politics and publications that is being defended on here.
If one is not willing to see both sides of a debate and only comments on their own bias then that is not debate.
Perhaps if one is not able to comment on the morality of the topic then one should not participate if they cannot offer any debate other than a one eyed outlook that doesn't address the topic.
Just an opinion and not offered as offence to anybody cause that's how I roll.

Disapproving of violent content regardless of which side it's aimed at isn't taking potshots or sniping from the sidelines without having any real idea about the subject.
