Pakistani sisters shot dead after being filmed dancing outside their home
I find it embarrassing that we accuse our mp's of being a misogynist when this is what is happening to women in other countries.

no wonder some don't see it or understand it ...
if a women must be murdered for it to be considered.. misogyny
she did not say anyone needed to be murdered for it to be considered misogyny.
my take on the OP is that the happenings in that article is an example of a true misogynistic society and what the ex PM considered to be misogynist behaviour in our society is trivial compared to what the women in this example suffer, and we should feel extremely lucky instead of just focusing on feeling downtrodden or slighted.
And before anyone tells me women are disadvantaged and it needs to change, just remember - you are not going to be tortured and killed for wanting that change.
See how lucky we really are?

Cats Back , you mention 'other cultures'..I am really concerned and aware (even more so recently) and concerned about how things are in our Country...and what the consequences of acceptance are .
Our culture, not the system, fails victims
DateJune 13, 2013
The catchcry in Jill Meagher's tragic case is that ''the system'' failed her (''Outrage at parole board failure'', 12/6). I disagree.
''The system'' did not fail Jill Meagher - we did. It is tiring to hear that ''the system'' is once again used as a scapegoat. How long will it take for leaders to point to the rape culture that exists in Australia? Rape culture, while commonly misunderstood, describes a culture in which rape and sexual violence are seen as an unfortunate reality that has become normalised and tolerable.
We live in a rape culture when: a man has been found guilty of more than 20 rape and assault offences, but is free to reoffend; when a man admits to 16 rapes in a six-month period but doesn't become a household name; when the rape of a sex worker is seen as a lesser offence than the rape of any other woman; when a rape victim is assessed on his/her appearance and behaviour before being given support; and when it takes the brutal rape and murder of a smart, attractive woman, and the media frenzy that ensued, to capture the country's attention of a crime that is all too common and too often ignored.

Iza.. you are putting words into my mouth...
where did I say that there is NO misogyny in Australia???
Where have I said that murder and rape in this country is ok??
Where have I ever said that men getting away with rape and murder is ok???
Where have I said what happened to Jill is ok???
Do you know that often violence and rape and murder is not always associated with misogyny???
Do you know that many of the men that do those sorts of crimes have other problems???
If you want me to rattle off a few I can give you some examples..
mental illness, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, childhood abuse...
many things happen to our men such as beatings, rape and murder that are not because of anything other than the criminal culture that runs riot in many areas of our society...
If you go ahead and blame it all on misogyny then we will never have a chance of fixing it.
you need to take a bex and lay down for a while.

yes and as much as it pains me to ever defend the OP i believe she has been deliberately taken out of context because she mentioned the ex PM.
on 01-07-2013 06:45 PM
yes the ex pm was mentioned and 'other cultures '
and the OP which is going by the thread title states "This is misogyny'
Sisters shot dead = murder
would a Country that sexually attacks their female pm and expects her to condone and accept it (thereby showing everyone that is acceptable and women should just put up with it and men should expect not to be held accountable) ...
be seen to be misogynist ? perhaps add to our rape culture ?
Cats Back, I know you have said she didn't speak for you.She didn't need to .She had a right to speak for herself. As a women and a Mother of both Sons and a DD I thank her .I hope that she has encouraged other young girls and women to speak up and sent a message to young and adult men .We all benefit from learning how to treat others appropriately .

some attitudes suggest women should remain silent ....that's a dangerous thing to encourage
on 01-07-2013 06:49 PM
and you have no right to put comments and accusations into my mouth..
learn to speak for yourself and not accuse me of saying things I did not say....
