Then why link the two? Just as in all forms of abuse there are variations of severity. That doesn't mean one is misogyny and another isn't. You weaken your argument against this atrocity by bring into it the local political situation.

Because posters on here have been calling others on here misogynists... they call mp's misogynists.
Women in this country have it pretty good... I believe from the bottom of my heart that we are incredibly lucky and I feel sick everytime I hear stories like I posted a link to.
I feel that we can grow as a nation and allow women to climb the ladder with much more ease.. change does need to happen in many places.
But I deeply feel that it is not misogyny. The same day Gillard made her speech about Tony Abbott being a woman hater a young girl in Pakistan was shot in the head by the Taliban because she thought that girls should be educated...
Gillard's speech made headline around the world and that little girl was an afterthought.
If you think I am wrong for my very deep feelings on this then so be it... but I have done a lot of reading... I have had some very meaningful conversations with women in countries where to be a female politician means you need police protection 24 hr a day.
maybe I am wrong.. maybe this is a political thing... but in my mind it is a reality thing.. that we should all consider how lucky we are that our girls won't be shot for dancing in the street.
