I love raspberries.

My last trifle was made with raspberries and fresh berries but why are they so expensive at Christmas?

Sounds good Lurker.  I don't usually go for desserts much myself but I just can't say no to trifle.

lolol!! you're right, lurker! i was thinking merkin on that one ,lol!

joono, yes,it's fermented then clarified, like most liqueurs or cordials. you  need to make it in summer, and store it in a dry cool place for about 4 months, then clarify it and store it in the same place as before.

i'll pull it up and post it in the morning,as long as i won't get in trouble for posting a recipe to make alcohol, lol!

taste my religion! nibble a witch! 😄

Quick sherry dessert idea ... take Christmas cake (that old traditional one with lots of fruit in it). Heat butter in a frying pan. Dip slices of cake into sherry and fry until a little bit toasty on each side.

Top with whipped cream 🙂

I spent a few minutes there wondering if I ever ate dessert without whipped cream ... I came up with baklava.

My ex loves fried Christmas fruit cake with bacon and eggs.  It sounds like a really weird combination but it does sort of work in a way.  Maybe it's the sugar/salt combo.

I tend to keep my savoury and sweet things separate, and I am also not keen on mixing meat and fruit (like roast pork with apple sauce).

Apple sauce.

Peel and core apples, quarter and slice thinly. Add a small amount of water to a saucepan add sugar to taste and cook gently until you are able to mash (or sieve) the apples.

Voila.

OOHHHHHHHHH ... my new toy arrived yesterday ... the apple slicer, peeler, corer thingie.

Whoever it was that mentioned it here, many thanks. I haven't tried it yet, but I have bought some apples.

This is the trifle I make at Christmas.  It's made with gingerbread instead of lady fingers and the custard is made with egg nog instead of milk.  I also put some nutmeg in my whipped cream.

I'm so glad you said that katy. I hate fruit and meat together.
Sweet 'n' sour, apricot chicken, ham & pineapple, pork with applesauce, sultans or currents in dishes. Blerk to the lot of 'em LOL

Same Lurker.  Blerk to apricot chicken but apparently it is making a comeback.

I like pork with apple sauce though and I love apple and cheese together.
