Where I live, there is a little op shop I think is fabulous. It is run completely on volunteer labour and is a community project between several of the different churches in the area, so a great example of different faiths co-operating. All money raised goes to support disadvantaged families in the local area. They have a bin out the front for after hours donations so that is convenient too.
And because it is volunteer labour, you know overheads are low. I try to support them by donating decent quality stuff.
The shop is clean, but packed and a bit overcrowded. I suspect if you are looking for high end labels you would be out of luck but on the other hand, prices are very reasonable, with books always only 50c each (hard cover are $1).
I mainly buy books there (which I return once I have read them) and I also love to look at crocheted doileys. They are the sort of thing you don't see in shops, I love the colourful old doileys.
Long live op shops, you never know what you will come across.

I have a round of about 25 oppo-thrift shops a week.
Some are done weekly-others a couple of days-one near home every day.
I have noticed in ..mainly the independents and some chain store operations
with books and mags--anything about the Royal Family is in
glass cases with very high prices.
Other goodies are on the shelves for about a $1.00.
Have a full set of Australian Muscle Car mags and now a near full spare set.
Got an original no 2 last week-for 10 cents.
Have a look on here what they sell for...............................................Richo.

I use op shops all the time now, some are more expensive than Kmart but when you find a gem of an op shop it is awesome.
I find clothes, toys, books even furniture to restore.

I love those long hand knit jumpers of the 80s
Mohair and angora with beautiful patterns and Buttons
And the fancy leather jackets
Real leather not that reconstituted **bleep** from you know
Where
And boots
And the quality of clothes made
In Australia was amazing

Yes it was. And easy and cheap to buy woollen clothes too. Now anything with wool in it is so expensive, let alone mohair.

They are very hard to find
Now and any 80s stuff
I have found that second hand
Things have about a thirty
Year span of probable
Availability and then they're
Gone
And become quite rare
Never see 70s stuff anymore
And that swedish furniture from
The 70s fetches rediculous
Prices at auction

Nothing generally is pure
Wool anymore anyway
It is all wool blend to make
It easier to launder
I was given hundreds of
Balls of wool by this old guy
We know when his wife
Passed away
Every color under the sun
And I'm making a qs bs
In crochet medallions
Up to about 70 squares
Figure I need about 120
There about 7"squares
My daughter says hows
Your nana blanket going
And I say "excuse me
Its a highly collectable
Crocheted retro bedspread
Thank you very much lol"
