Thrifting

 Thoughts?

 Yes? No?

What was your best bargain? Or do you avoid thrifting?

Re: Thrifting

crochet blankets are warm as toast

i recently knitted a blanket all in squares  to fit a qs bed  140 squares 6 inches square it took but i made it so it hung over the sides and i used all colours of the rainbow  the best part was no sewing the squares together

Re: Thrifting

Wow sounds  great did you knit

It all  in one piece .

That would seem to take forever

If you did 140 × 6" that's a bit

More than I thought

I was thinking the first time you wash

It might drop quite a lot

And I was also thinking I might

Crochet a scalloped border

Around the edge

Definitely not looking forward

To sewing together as well

As sewing in all the color

Changes 4 to each square

I'm starting to wish I had

Done that as I went

Re: Thrifting

Hi opmania,

sorry it should of been 144 squares as i did a 12x12  square omg it was heavy i knitted it in 12 ply

sometimes using 8 and 4 ply together . the squares has a ridge effect and it looked amazing.

once done yes it is knitted all in one once you knitted a square and cast off you pick up along sides and continue on if that makes sense.

i had started it last winter got half way then ended up putting it away over summer and started it  when winter was upon us

when i finnished it i had to hand wash it in the bath tub and myself and my OH carefully hung it over the clothes line to dry hung it over 3 lines so it wouldn't sag

 it retained it's shape .

i also did a trim to go on the edge of the blanket which i did using 2x12 ply yarn  in black

if you would like  the pattern just send me a  pm and i will send it to you

it is not a bought pattern just one i have done myself.

Re: Thrifting

I can just imagine how heavy that

Would be at least 12 ply is quick

To knit and would be super warm

Thanks for the pattern offer but

If I ever crochet anything again it

Won't be any bigger than a throw

Lol

Have some great patterns for

Kids designer knits

Might try them next

Re: Thrifting

A productive half hour at the op shop this morning...

Two Sussan shirts, an American-Indian design shawl/scarf, a Lee Cooper jacket, and a book about horses Woman Happy

 Anyone else found bargains lately?

Re: Thrifting

Yes ..... at The Salvos... a nearly new  country road hoodie,   a set of gloss white ceramic canisters,   a very pretty toddler's jacket which I alter to make a coat for my little dog.  It's fun isn't it.

Re: Thrifting

I love it...

It can get a bit tedious if I go in every day or so, but I like going in about once a week just to see what I can find. Love the idea about the dog coat 🙂

Re: Thrifting

I'm a bit devastated. The little op shop I go to.. I went to drop in a bag of donations recently and it is closed due to fire damage. The shop next door (wok'd) burnt down, or almost, and it obviously caused smoke & other damage to nearby shops.

The op shop is next door and it looks as if builders are having to move in, it is all boarded up.

The cheescake store next to the op shop is also shut, which upset my daughter. She prepaid a father's day mudcake for her husband ($42 worth) and it is closed too, no answers to texts or phone calls either, at the number they pinned to the door.
