Tibet

For many years now the world has been appalled at the destruction of Tibetan culture, religion, monasteries and the people of Tibet by China

In 1951 China invaded Tibet. In 1959, to save his peoples lives and his own, the 14th Dalai Lama escaped to India.

A brave Tibetan woman smuggled in a 5 minute video message from the Dalai Lama to his people. This is heartbreaking to watch.

I don't have time to watch this video sorry.... BUT I will see if I can't get time while I am on holidays.

I don't get why China is so against the people of Tibet... you can't tell me that the once peaceful people of Tibet were a threat to the whole control the Chinese leaders have over their people..

It is a shame that the invasion of Tibet has caused so much distress... I heard that drugs and violence are now an everyday part of the Tibetan peoples lives... such a shame..

It is estimated that since 1959, 1.5 million Tibetans have died as a direct result of Chinese incursion into the country.

In the decades following 1959, particularly during the Cultural Revolution, there was wholesale destruction of Tibetan buildings and religious artifacts. All but 12 of more than 6,000 monasteries were destroyed. Many of them were used as target practice by Chinese artillery. A thousand years' worth of priceless Buddhist literature, religious paintings and artifacts were either destroyed or have fetched millions of dollars on the international market in an effort by the Chinese to raise foreign currency and to wipe out Tibet's rich heritage.

In 1995 the Chinese government kidnapped the six-year-old Gendun Chökyi Nyima and his parents, shortly after he had been recognized by the Dalai Lama as the latest reincarnation of Tibet's second most important spiritual leader, the Panchen Lama. In a resolution of July, 1995, the European Parliament called on China to release the family immediately. This family, like many other groups and individuals who have been detained without trial, remains unaccounted for.

Words can never describe the tragedy. It hurts so deep to even think about it. Yet we continue to buy Chinese products, well, I don't.

This film, especially at the end, haunts me. Listen to the words. OMG. :_|

The real Panchen Lama was kidnapped by the Chinese Government as a little boy and was imprisoned. His whereabouts are unknown. Most likely murdered. The Chinese then announced they had found the "real" Panchen Lama (a little boy the same age as the real one). The Dalai Lama does not recognise this Panchen Lama.

Tibetans are banned from even talking about the Dalai Lama. They are not allowed pictures of him. They are not allowed to even call Tibet Tibet. It is now known as a "suburb" of China. Tibetan language is banned from schools.

Millions of Tibetans have been murdered, tortured and imprisoned.

The Dali Lama appealed for help from the United Nations when his people were being murdered, when his people were systematically sterilised, when UNSPEAKABLE atrocities when being done to the nuns and monks...

Tibetans are now a minority in their own country.

Have just watched it.

Thinking how everything I am doing today is soooo unimportant, except maybe writing here.

I have in the past written to the Chinese Embassy asking my messages be forwarded, explaining the damage China was/is doing to their own reputation by their actions towards Tibet and Tibetans.

It was however inspiring in parts to see the cultural/spiritual flame re-ignited in Tibetans from watching the Dalai lama's message.

Thank you cat, thank you for reminding me what is important, as sombre as it may be.

Thank you thank you for caring about the Tibetans and watching the video kopen :-x

I have also written to the Chinese Embassy.

I was also struck by the looks on the peoples faces when they heard and saw the Dalai Lama and his message to them. It was heartbreaking but I hope they have found the courage to keep going and to have hope.

Now I have. 😮

A very valid point but gee, I don't think she would have received much compensation nor much popularity.

I also like to think that with so many of the worlds eyes on International events these days, China would not risk further detriment to their reputation.

Besides, I think the Tibetan people feel they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I too was concerned the Chinese Government would seek out and imprison the Tibetan people shown in the film but I believe certain precautions were taken.

But what happened here makes me very concerned. A film crew caught this on camera.
