Tim Tam Turns 50 Today!

Most 50-year-olds would do well to ease back on the sweets, but this popular Aussie is still going strong despite consuming 20 tonnes of chocolate each day.

Tim Tam, the world's most popular biscuit, turned 50 on Sunday.

To celebrate the biscuit's anniversary, Tim Tam and Qantas flew people to Winton, in central west Queensland, for a reunion with the loved ones they aren't able to see often.

"Aussies have loved and connected over Tim Tam biscuits for 50 years. To celebrate this milestone, in 2014 we're launching a year of togetherness," Arnott's marketing director Susanna Polycarpou.

People from across Australia and as far away as the UK flew to the remote town, which is also the birthplace of Qantas, for a "chocolate-filled birthday extravaganza."

Each day the Arnott's factory uses 20 tonnes of chocolate to pump out 3000 biscuits each minute.

Erm...no I don't think so Lakes...Woman LOL

I just googled Winton. It's amongst other things, the birthplace of Qantas, the site of 3 dinosaur fossil finds and Banjo Paterson first penned Waltzing Matilda while staying at a local sheep station.

It's more the Australian Heritage thing. Campbell's (the US company that now owns Arnott's) is making a big play on that.

it was just a guess Smiley Happy

i had friends who worked for Arnotts in Adelaide, one used to bring home 2 kilo blocks of chocolate (they used to fill the machines with the blocks, which were about the same size as a hardcover book) he used to make all kinds of chocolate deserts from them.. to the point everyone was sick of the stuff.

Never heard of them here in the UK, nor have I ever seen them in any outlet, or advertised on TV, magazines, or newspapers. I understand though - after doing a search - that you can get them from certain web sites.

Anyway....
