Time to move on

Every election time sees the Lib and Lab supporter on here having a go at eachother, but never before, on CS or the past CW board, have i seen it carry on and on and on after the election is over.

Its ridiculous.

Its done. Its over.

Let it go until the next election.

Re: Time to move on

Here you go, mm, a video. You'll understand it more than a graph.
Interesting that you would post such a video JMK , as it confirms  what Morrison has said: "that arrivals have fallen 80% under the current LIBS plan, however it can be said that they started to fall earlier from an extremely high level under the ALP which resulted from Rudd's policy.

JMK: "The graph that matters is the one we've all seen on TV...it shows how boat numbers have steadily declined since Labor's Kevin Rudd introduced his policy." But you conveniently forget JMK, from an extremely high level as a result of  another of Rudd's policies: scrapping the Pacific Solution resulting in boat arrivals a couple of orders of magnitude above  Howard's 2006 figures.

 asylum boats BOATS.JPG

2006=  6 boats  60 occupants

2009=  60 boats, 2,726 occupants

2013 last 3 months  20 boats around 900 occupants

"Labor closed the Pacific Solution on coming to
power in 2007, but has now moved to embrace
Howard’s anti-refugee policy. Labor’s adoption of the
policies of the Coalition saw Tony Abbott agree to
pass the legislation, ensuring it became law"

So a Rudd policy increased boatees to a very high level after 2006, he then basically adopted a past LIB policy (election due)  which resulted in a fall to a level still well above Howard's, and this is to be praised thus:
"achievements of the previous govt. Here are some: - successfully reduced the number of asylum seeker boats" Having first raised them?

We certainly do view things differently JMK

Re: Time to move on

Whatever; it still boils down the fact we play political football with these poor people lives.  People running away from bombing and atrocities are worldwide problem; those arriving here are our responsibility.  There should be bi-partisan attempt of solution; not a race which party can set up more cruel & inhuman treatment of these people.

Rudd's attempt at more human treatment of refugees coincided with the escalation of war in Shri Lanka, which saw large number of Tamils running away from there.  How many of them would have gone in the other direction (to Europe) if these changes did not happen is anybody's guess.  Of-course, people run in the direction where they hope they will find a place they can stay, but if they all headed for Europe, situation there would have been worse than it was, and then the next wave would hear how desperate things are there and would be looking for different direction.  As I said before, it is not just one reason why people are heading for particular destination.  The number of people arriving here depends on what is happening in various countries in the preceding months.  Howard was lucky, his tough measures were complimented with relatively calm period.

Re: Time to move on

DB, I remember the "Greasy Spoon" well, and your contributions, but at the time i thought you too polite . Once you earned your wings there and dodged (returned)  the flying insults,  the other Boards, like this, are  an  auto-pilot cruise.

I do though miss the Coven when it was at full shriek, and Stew was fulminating as normal, but at least the nuts do provide some chuckles now.

I never understand the mentality of a members worth and contributing being thought to go by the number of years someone has posted.

You aren't just expressing your disappointment...you are telling others what you feel they shouldn't post about .

How many years do you think anyone else needs to post before they can claim to be entitled to tell you what not to post about ?

Well going by your own criteria then, Iza, DDB has every right to post about wanting ppl to stop posting political threads

Yes? No? Maybe?

Re: Time to move on

I'm asking for the quantifier...how many year,how many posts,how many threads,tears,laughs etc ?

If we are moving on...perhaps lets think of this board as CS rather than long gone chat boards of the past and each of us try to make this discussion board what each of us want it to be ? (within the guidelines of course)

Politics doesn't end after federal elections .It is constant and it is something some people do discuss as general topic which is what CS is about (general non ebay related discussion)

When I post I am not a 'political' party .I post my views and my values .I don't even know from election to election how any of my family vote nor they me....I listen to their thoughts though and  they listen to mine.

Why my views and values must be referred to by other posters as leftie/luvie/labor I don't know ?

An attempt to belittle,devalue...when that is the last option ?

I'd rather love than hate

Isnt there an old saying, Dont discuss religion or politics with friends?

Im curious, those that starts threads daily on here about politics, do they bombard their friends in real life the same way?

Re: Time to move on

DDB, you need to put id's down then each poster can reply to your question as what we are.

Individual ebay members

I'll answer by saying I respect you enough that I wouldn't even ask you that question

You're welcome to post what you feel is relevant on the CS boards, as you've described above. You may not always get the desired response, however.

It happens to everyone, not just you. I've seen plenty of ppl derided, belittled and insulted here, including myself. It's all part of what makes up the boards, the diversity of human nature.

You either roll with the punches or you get very bruised.

DDB's opinions are just as valid as yours.
