To buy or not to buy, that is the question.

Computer Anti-virus installations, that is. Do you purchase them, or use a 'freebie' ?

To buy or not to buy, that is the question.

I use  AVG - a net freebie, plus a couple of other spyware programs, and have yet to suffer a virus/trojan horse.

Not saying it can't happen, but it hasn't yet.

All were reccomended by family computer geeks, who also work in the field, so I reckon they'd know what they're talking about, too.

I use Avira anti-virus. a freebie. I've heard that Norton is a bit of a memory hog.

I haven't used one for a few years. Used to buy one (3 users) then used a free one, now zip.

Yeah, Norton is supposed to be invasive. They tend to put it on all new computers.

I use Avast free,  Super anti Spyware and Malawarebytes.

They have all picked up threats.

I had nothing but trouble with Norton.

If you watch a lot of online porn then buy a good one.

I have been using free Avast for years and years, never had a problem. Nortons is a nightmare.

Yes I too use the AVG one, and have done so for about 6/7 years, and without any problems. *touches wood and hope that isn't tempting providence*

Like Bright.on42, I also use the Super Anti Spyware one.

The reason I ask is because I took my lappy to a repair shop recently for a 'health check' (MOT), and he said that there was a bit of 'grime' on it, and that 'freebies' are not much cop. He maintained that the paid for ones are the best. Oddly enough he went on to say that he has one of his own that he could install for £50 per annum, and of course claimed that it was the best on the market. Mmmmmmmm.......

I declined his kind offer. Both of mine are free, btw.
