Tony Abbott's Support Page

A reminder of the debt that Australia has, while Labor can bury their heads and deny it exists the fact remains we have a huge problem with debt and sooner than later the chips will fall, no business, no state and no country can keep operating in the red, eventually those we own the money to will own us. Who will own us?
The state of Qld has debt of $80 billion dollars, Labor are saying they don’t think it’s that bad, Bill Shorten on Australia’s debt, there is no debt crisis, there is a crisis and we are in this situation because of Labor, no one else and the bottom line is Labor can’t fix this problem, their speciality is creating debt not fixing debt.

Foreign real estate buyers to pay fees of at least $5,000 under foreign investment review system

The Federal Government has flagged fees of at least $5,000 for foreign buyers of Australian residential real estate.

At a press conference in Sydney, the Prime Minister and Treasurer announced a raft of changes to laws that govern the ability of foreign buyers - temporary residents and non-residents - to purchase Australian residential property.

Unveiling the key contents of a consultation paper, Treasurer Joe Hockey said the proposed measures were designed to restore confidence in a foreign investment review system that had not prosecuted anyone for breaching the rules since 2006.

"For any foreign investor that wants to buy a residential property under $1 million, there will be a $5,000 application fee," he said.

"Over $1 million, it will be $10,000 for every extra million dollars in the purchase price.

"Secondly, there will be a new register set up so that we know how many foreign residential and agricultural property owners are in Australia, who they are, which is a very important form of reassurance to the Australian people.

"And, if anyone does break the law then we can fine them up to 25 per cent of the value of the property as well as forcing them to sell the property."

About bluddy time too. I took so much petitioning to make them take notice of what was going on around them.

Re: Tony Abbott's Support Page

Quite right too.  I did have some time for Julie Bishop (well not much) but it turned out that she is just as much a liar as Tony Abbott.

She lied to her back teeth about Gillian Triggs.

To quote one person that I follow on twitter -

Are there enough chars in twitter to list the #lnp ministers you want MTurnball to shaft on the reshuffle. #auspol #libspill

Do you think those fees are enough to deter the very rich, and achieve whatever is the aim?  There seems to be an awful lot of $$$ available from China.

Ouch. He will remember that for a long time. Yeah, for about <10 seconds. As if a Kiwi journalist would care about Julie Bishop!

Re: Tony Abbott's Support Page

the register etc is a good idea but do you really think

$5,000 is going to deter anyone from getting a piece of The Lucky Country

or it used to be called that is it still ?

maybe they changed it to The Lucky for Some Country

Re: Tony Abbott's Support Page

No, they wont deter but it is some easy revenue.

I think it should be $50,000, because before $50,000, rich people don't bat an eyelid,
It is petty cash.

They have the money, they are foreign, milk them for all they are worth.

No, I don't. I made a post about that somewhere. $5000 is small change to a property investor from  overseas... countries where their currency is worth a lot more than ours, overseas millionairs... won't make any difference at all to what they want to buy.

In Sydney buyers from China buy properties worth $1m or more just so their kids can live in them while they study in Aust.

Don't forget everyone, it is only a PROPOSED measure at the moment.
