Top 10 Benefits of the NBN

What are they?

Why do people want it?

Why do people need it?

How does it compare with what we have now?

How will it benefit us compared to what we have now?

Same deal, who knows.

When they built the copper network first they never dreamed we would one day transmit photos over it. NBN will allow us to send 3D TV, holographs and holograms.... who knows.

Top 10 Benefits of the NBN

which version , the NBN or the faux NBN ?

I don't know the difference.

But the issue seems to be a pretty big one, but I just want to know what's in it for me, and who exactly it will benefit and in what ways.

Technology is just changing so rapidly, and new ones are constantly emerging, the little I have heard about the NBN says it's going to take a long time to roll out for an awful lot of money - I'm kinda wondering if it is a type of technology that can evolve with new technologies and not be relatively obsolete before everybody gets the benefits.

But so far, no one has actually been able to list the benefits for it in comparison to what we already have available to us. I.e. - what are the comparisons between ADSL2 and the NBN? How will the NBN improve my life iykwim?

Just in everyday terms - not the techy talk

I thought that's what I did  :^O

Technology is changing rapidly but the medium is not.

Because technology is changing rapidly we need a medium that will facilitate those advances.

The NBN wireless, satellite and FTTP are all upgradable, probably not infinitely but at least to allow for the same increase rate that we currently see per year.

The LNP option cost two thirds the amount and only aims to stretch the very last breath of life from the copper before it will need to be upgraded anyway.

it may not improve life for you at all, freaky has the best grasp of it on these boards i'd say so i'd seek out her threads as she has a connection now. it will (the labor version) improve things for many people . one thing it will do from the look of all the talk surrounding the poor imitation that abbott and turnbull have on offer is give Labor a poll boost. the libs have kicked an own goal with this one.

Who wants to send this stuff? It's a lot of money to send pictures, isn't it? and an awful lot of money to spend without knowing exactly what it will provide, isn't it?

Thanks freaky - you snuck in whilst I was posting above - but I have questions - sorry about the blue type within the quote - its just the easiest way I know how to address the exact comments iykwim..

What I really don't get, is if it's the rural places that will really benefit from this in the short term, then why are they so focused on getting it into the more developed areas first? I know they have to have basic infrastructure in place, but rather than branching out within the areas whose needs are already met in most cases - why not prioritize for those who really do need it?

Thanks.

The whole experience has been an education and a half.... plus I've always had the obsession with audio/video/computers.

Yes, you have explained it in easy terms - but you just snuck in whilst I was posting. Thanks for that

But what's LNP, FTTP etc? are they different to the NBN?

increase rate in what?

so how does ADSL 2 operate? If they're going to phase it out or the copper cabling or however it operates, then why are they still installing it now? Why didn't they just pop in the NBN stuff instead of putting in the ADSL2 stuff?

what is the imitation that abbott and turnbull are proposing?

and how did it get political? How does it give labour a poll boost?

How have the libs kicked a goal?

I get that it will improve things for many people - but how and who?

I'm just not understanding why ADSL 2 isn't being rolled out for everyone iykwim (not that I even understand what it is - all I know is it works just fine for me.

Isn't it costing a whole heap of money and going to take a very long time to roll out?
