looks like Australia will stamp out the viral pest and so release everyone to return to their productive live with renewed vigour, innovation and cheery high productivity - within Australia

Not so good for those seeking two way trips overseas or those seeking to viist Australia - both understandably banned as the virus still rampart - and the last thing we want is an Eqador experience

But anyhow not all is lost to the tourist industry as now almost 1 million per month previous short trip overseas people  will hopefully now find reason to tour within Australia ( I know there are other reasons for visiting overseas)

My daughter and I had tickets booked to fly to Sydney (with Qantas fortunately) and return home on the Indian Pacific in July. We should get deferrals on thosose tickets, so as soon as we have the all clear we'll still be going.

Hopefully more Australians will travel within our country if they can't go overseas.

There are so many beautiful places in our own country, but some people think it's not a holiday if they don't go overseas.

One of the  planned  highlights of our trip was to be a viisit  to the pioneer cemetery at St John's church Wilberforce to take photos of  the graves of some of my husband's convict ancestors - we even had t shirts made for the occasion with CONVICT DESCENDANT  printed on them. Hopefully we'll still be able to do this.

Just about everyone I know has had overseas holidays or trips cancelled.

If our government has any sense at all, it will keep our borders shut tight for many months to come, we really don't want tourists from outside at this point.

probably travel within a state will become possible first, then later perhaps travel between some states. Plenty to see here in Aust.

I often feel travel within Vic is also very under rated. Soem fantastic regional centres here and lots of history.

She-elephant, awesome stuff about the convict ancestors. I also have a convict ancestor. I knew his daughter, would you believe! Mind you, I was only a young child when she died but I still remember her. She was my great grandmother.

With travel, I am still getting emails from several cruise companies, offering booking options for cruises later this year or next year.

I feel they are dreaming. Who has any confidence that cruises will take place later this year? I don't, unless they had a limited itinerary eg round Australia or Aust/NZ. And even that is only if people were happy to get back on a ship and it will be a while till people get that confidence back that they won't risk being stuck on board. I enjoy cruising but I am not booking anything any time soon.

I think if you do some research, you may find out that all sicknesses aboard cruise ships  are with one company alone - Carnival.

I have friends who 'cruise' often and they say the slackness of the cleaning and wait staff is horrendous.

On other cruises, disinfection is ongoing - lift buttons, stair balustrades, table tops etc

Ashtrays are emptied when there's only 2 or 3 butts in them, glasses removed asap

On the Carnival cruise, no cleaning of public areas was seen more than once a day.  Ashtrays were overflowing, tabletops full of empty glasses.

They say they will never go on a Carnival cruise again.

e.g.  Ruby Princess is a Carnival owned ship.
