..I dont put vinegar in the final rinse, I have a front loader and when I put the detergent in, I put 1/2 cup on vinegar where the softener dispenser is.
The softener dispenser releases whatever product we put in there, in the final rinse.

You're right Karen, vinegar is an alkaline, not acid.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinegar
Vinegar is a liquid consisting mainly of acetic acid (CH3COOH) and water.

vinegar isnt acid, go to google and look up vinegar for washing, it also gets stains out, it is natural, just like using bi carb soda for cleaning.
I know for a fact it doesnt rot clothes or towels.
Vinegar has been used for a long long time.
I am not going to argue with you or am about it, as all both of you have to do is google it and find out.............

Methylated spirits ("metho") is a mixture of ethyl alcohol (95%) and methyl alcohol (%5). The methyl alcohol is poisonous and is added to prevent the methylated spirits being used as cheap drinking alcohol.
If you get metho on your hands, rinse them thoroughly before handling food.

Perhaps you should try googling first.
Try "what is the pH of vinegar?" or "Is vinegar an acid?"
Acacia is correct, vinegar is an acid.
Added to a wash cycle or a sink of water it would have little impact on the pH of the water, but it in it's purest form it is an acid.

Vinegar is an acidic liquid no matter what you use it for... salad dressing, putting in washing machine etc.
Vinegar is an acidic liquid, which is made both naturally and synthetically, from the oxidation of ethanol, CH3CH2OH, in an alcohol-containing liquid such as wine, fermented fruit juice (e.g. cider) or beer. It has been used since ancient times as an important cooking
ingredient, e.g. in salad dressings and on fish and chips. The key chemical component of vinegar is acetic acid, CH3COOH (systematic name: ethanoic acid).
The acetic acid content of vinegar can vary widely, but for table vinegar it typically ranges from 4 to 8 % v/v. When used for pickling, the acetic acid content can be as high as 12 %.
If a manufacturer of washing machines states vinegar is not good for rubber seals in washing machines I would be inclined to believe them.
