A man hailed as a hero for trying to stop a terrorist has spent the night in jail, after being charged over a series of Melbourne burglaries.
Michael Rogers, who has been sleeping rough for 18 years, was dubbed the Bourke Street 'Trolley Man' after he was caught on camera trying to fight off terrorist Hassan Khalif Shire Ali with a shopping trolley during last Friday's rampage.
But his heroic act was quickly overshadowed after the police announced on Thursday Mr Rogers was wanted in connection with break-ins in Melbourne's CBD and St Kilda areas.
A fundraising page was launched to thank Mr Rogers for his bravery and to give him a second chance in life after last week’s terrorist attack.
The page was shared thousands of times online and has raised more than $144,300 in just five days through more than 5175 individual donations.
But while many have congratulated Mr Rogers for his "heroic actions" on Bourke Street, others have questioned whether the fundraiser should have been launched.
It appears the comment section of the fundraising page has been closed.
Others on the fundraising page are now calling for the money to be donated to charity.
I think he should get the money. At least he'll have something to live on and won't have to commit burglaries to get by.

Should cover most of Robert Richter's fees.

if hes guilty of crimes, then he must pay for that, doesnt make him any less than a darn good bloke for sticking his neck out helping police being attacked.
i'm sure there were many onlookers who stood by doing nothing.
some even taking the time to film it. real heroes those are.

'Trolley Man' Michael Rogers behind bars after alleged burglary
The Bourke Street "Trolley Man" is behind bars after he was charged with stealing goods from an East Melbourne apartment two days ago.
Michael Rogers, 46, was arrested on Friday in relation to an alleged burglary on Wednesday.
He was charged with burglary, theft and committing an indictable offence while on bail, and was remanded in custody.
The homeless man earned the nickname "Trolley Man" after stepping in harm's way with a shopping cart to fend off Islamic State-inspired attacker Hassan Khalif Shire Ali during his deadly Bourke Street rampage on November 9
An online fundraising campaign for Rogers raised more than $155,000.

From crook to hero status to crook.
May never know, but what if the recent burglary he is alleged to have committed
was at the property of someone who had donated money.
