The trek nearly killed us, I was fine going up but not going down whilst my husband was the opposite.
Luckily we didn’t have to trek back and took the tubing/rafting option which was risky but so much fun.

Nothing. It’s too late I think. Tourism isn’t good for them either I’m sad to say. In Bukit Lawang there are 300 guides roughly, many of them aren’t even locals.
People are poor, they’re going to do anything for for money at the expense of these beautiful animals.
We only went to north and West Sumatra and the Palm Oil and rubber plantations are enormous.

Apart from boycotting products that contain Palm Oil I guess but globalisation is crushing our planet
