9:23am: This is not a good result for Mr Abbott.
He retains the leadership but 39 MPs (out of 101 who were present) have cast what is essentially a vote of no confidence in him.
This means the leadership issue is far from resolved.
SMH Live_______________________________________________________________________________________________Can't see much of a future career in politics for those 39, can you?
I reckon MT's a goner as well.
huh?? those 39 backbenchers were democratically voted in and because of them the LNP was able to form govt. without them, no abbott govt. I suppose they will just remain on the backbench and continue to work against the leader they don't want, until he's gone

Abbott did NOT win convincingly. That was the whole point of the spill motion. Under 20 no votes might be a convincing win.
It now is only a matter of time.
The pundits suggest that Sinnerdinos was the architect.
disappointment is bitter, the numbers are good for the PM. As for "pundits" is that like Rudds "Sophie"? anecdotal chit chat is not fact.
Senator Sinodinos, was one of PM Abbotts staunchest supporters but he shot himself in the foot didn't he?.
I think **bleep**ising peoples names and ID's is against cs regulations.
I am not at all disappointed. I am extremely pleased. He will be done slowly, to quote someone else.
I take note of senior political commentators before uninformed posters.
As for the last statment, check out your supporters and their posts.

Where's Nick when we need him. he would whip them into gear, they are there because of PM Abbott and they'd be well off remembering that.
