Unfair Dismissal

A friends Granddaughter was working for a large retail store.

Last Thursday when she knocking off she was at a checkout paying for something she was buying when a customer complained that she and the checkout operator were not working but just talking.

On friday when she arrived at work she was called into her supervisors office and after a short conversation she was sacked on the spot.

This was the first time she had been in trouble.

Unfair Dismissal

I have to wonder though, what kind of person that other customer was, that they would make trouble for someone who had done nothing to them. How terribly selfish not to want to simply wait your turn like anyone else.

Get her read the folllowing link and if she wants to take it further to call FairWork Australia tomorrow. No one here has the full details of her employment and why she was let go.

No the checkout operator wasn't sacked as she has a different supervisor. Just the girl who was knocking off.

From what you have said it all sounds wrong .

Also if her shift had finished and she was on her own time she had as much right to talk to the staff as the OP reads, she was at a checkout paying for something she was buying

 as any other customer .

The customer who complained obviously didn't view it that way and maybe even looked at the uniform and thought she was still 'working' .

Being call in and sacked for the above reason and if all is as you say.. would be unfair

There must be more to this, than having a convo with the checkout person while purchasing something shortly after she finished work.

Grandmoon  - did the employer specifically tell her the only reason they were firing her was because she was chatting to a checkout person shortly after she finished work when she was buying something?

Would hens play at running up against each other?

I'm not 100% sure that they wouldn't do that Claire ..I've seen what two girl cats and/or dogs can get up to.

Was there bad language or anything that could be seen as offensive involved in the conversation ?

We are only getting one side of the story here and not many details about that side either.

I was also wondering and thought maybe a "Secert Shopper" or someone who had gotten out of bed the wrong side.

Tommorrow her Gradma is taking her off to see the Union and also Fair Work Australia.
