Unfenced Dam blamed for Tragedy

Accidents happen but seriously, dams don't need to be fenced, house yards/gardens do.... properly, if you have a dam nearby and small children. This happened a few k's from us last night and it is heartbreaking. ๐Ÿ˜ž but preventable.

Yes, it is. He was raised from 5 months by the stepdad apparently, the father died last year.

It is just the most horrible thing for the family ๐Ÿ˜ž

Dams, rivers and creeks are typically not fenced, but the question of why one so young was allowed to wonder on his own

reporter:     "alex thought 'is fenced back yard was enough to keep michael from escapin'"

they think the little kid went down to the dam after the dog.
the dog could get through the fence, then.

gate didn't look to even have a latch on it, was wide open in the footage.
looks like there were great gaps along the bottom of the wire,in the fence, where it wasn't staked  to the ground.

     slack-o

Stepfather Alex Lynch, who has raised Michael since he was five months old, said the boy had been in the garden with his grandfather before the disappearance.

He said Michaelโ€™s grandfather turned his back for a moment, when Michael disappeared through a hole in the gate.

"It only takes less than a second and then he's gone," said Mr Lynch.

It is believed Michael followed a family dog, after the dog crawled under the fence and went for a swim in the nearby dam.
