What you think about this? My granddaughter's leather school shoes fell to bits from walking home in the rain. Mum bought her a cheap pair of black canvas ones which was all she could afford that week.
Now here's the whinge I have. The school made her take them off, walk around bare foot and walk home from school with no shoes on!!:-(X-(
Does this constitute child abuse?? Psychological I mean.

I think it borders on child abuse both physically and mental
I would be chasing that up and if no ones interested ACA is always looking for stories

how old is this child?....is that the story she has told?..would like to hear both sides of the story as it doesn't ring true imo

made her walk home in bare feet?....hmmmmmm

this 'child' is 14 and walking home barefoot is not something you can fake.

Wow!
I can understand the school's policy re leather shoes ie OH&S but how would removing any type of footwear provide protection? ?:| Makes no sense at all. I think the school would be in breach of some laws.

I can remember when I was a kid purposely walking in puddles etc on rainy days so my shiners got all wet and they'd let me take them off and go barefoot LOL
an Gil, not sure about the school making her walk around in bare feet - wondering who made that call - imagine if she had have cut her foot or something.... it surprises me the school were so lax in protecting themselves iykwim (though there is (or at least used to be) a school near here where shoes were optional) and I know lots of schools get their kids to take their shoes off for certain activities...
Not sure I'd go as far as child abuse myself though...
And as for being made to walk home bare foot? If it bothered her that much, if it was me, I would have got round the corner and put them on.
But, I def think it's something an adult needs to address as to the treatment by the school.
Our school is pretty strict uniform wise, but even a note from mum generally circumvents the occasional unavoidable deviation from the requirements. At worst they just get detention.
