The attack follows the knife attack on two police officers in Victoria that ended with an 18-year-old Islamic extremist being shot dead in Victoria.

NSW Police confirmed today that they were investigating the alleged attack on a member of the Australian Defence Force in full navy uniform at 6 o’clock this morning.

It is understood punches were thrown and threats of beheading were made.

A police spokesman confirmed the 41-year-old man allegedly suffered minor bruising in the attack and reported it later by telephone to Kings Cross police.

“The two men were described as being of middle eastern appearance,” the spokesman said.

Defence force families have already been put on high alert after an incident in Western Sydney in which two men of Middle Eastern appearance approached the house of a serving soldier and asked if defence force personnel lived there. 

They left after the wife of the soldier told them “no”.

NSW Police have also been told to be “vigilant” following the Melbourne attack by radicalised teenager Numan Haider.

its an absolute disgrace this happened in the centre of Sydney.Im sure something awful will end up happening  very soon.Defence personnel should be safe like we all should but its just not safe anymore.

Im starting to wonder if all the media coverage is making it worse though ,giving crazy people ideas

Yes, that is a possibility.  Imo the govt are not helping.  They refuse to divulge all information about asylum seekers for "security" reasons and make a spectacle of the IS extremism.  They are encouraging a deep divide within the community with the way they have approached the IS issue.

This was always going to happen you can't come into a culture where for a great many of the community a good night out is going down the pub on a Friday or Saturday night to see who can get into a fight and expect to be able to throw your wait around with out there being an immediate and unthought out response

We are just one innocent dead Australian way from there being mosques raised to the ground, I feel extremely sorry for the innocent Muslims in this country, but the only way they can stop it is to stop their own from making just as stupid decisions and attacking Australians

I was watching the news earlier and they showed 2 muslim women saying they don't believe the cops version of events and that how can an 18-year-old do that? They don't believe the cops. Those women should be deported too.

So, how do you define "Middle Eastern Looking"?  Could some Italian or Greeks have those features?  How about Sihks and Israelis?  Might someone with Hispanic heritage be mistaken for Semite?

Now, if they were screaming "Allah Akbar" as they punched, that might be a clue.........

So this is the governments fault? again? the media's fault? again?   for doing what it's supposed to do, what we expect our media to do? what we expect our government to do?

This is Australia we are a free and democratic country with a free press and that's how it should be. 

Here we see spouting it's the fault of the media and they should stop? this is just what the terrorists want and here we have you bowing to their terror calling for the media to be muzzled for fear we might be killed in our own country by radical extremists.

This terror has been visited on us by the extremists who have been radicalised by islam and it's been happening for many years. The radical bookshops for one.

To blame the media and the government?  I can't put just what I think of these comments.

More information about the surburban would be isil killer who planned and tried to execute 2 police officers. One thing that puzzles me is the way Ken Lay has totally stuffed up  information getting out, he's all over the place making statements then re making other statements.

I wish he's keep his mouth shut until all the facts are in. First of all he says it had no relation to the isil fatwa called on innocent Australian citizens, now we are seeing it was a planned attack and he had the isil flag on him.

POLICE investigating the teenage terror attack have closed in on three men who shared a final, ­fast-food meal with Numan Haider ­before he drove to a police station and attempted to stab to death two officers.

Detectives have reviewed ­security camera footage and questioned staff at nearby Hungry Jack’s restaurants to establish the identity of Haider’s companions and whether they played any role in the bloody events that ended with the 18-year-old shot dead outside the Endeavour Hills police station in Melbourne’s outer south­eastern suburbs.

It is understood Haider had a telephone conversation from the restaurant with police ­before he drove to the police station armed with two knives and an Islamic State flag. Haider wanted to meet police at the restaurant. Police ­insisted he go to the station.

Haider’s death has reverb­erated across the country and the world. Tony Abbott referenced it in his address to the UN Security Council in New York. Law-enforcem­ent authorities in Australia fear it will stoke community tensions. The Prime Minister dec­lared Australia would be “utterly unflinching towards anything that threatens our future as a free, fair and multicultural society”.

NSW police are investigating separate assaults in Sydney against a uniformed member of the Australian Defence Forces and a navy sailor. Both assaults were reportedly carried out by men of Middle-Eastern appearance.
