Victory Day Parade in Red Square Moscow ti commemorate the 70th anniversary of the defeat of Nazism.
The Patriotic War claimed 27 million Russian lives and the outcome of World War II would have been vastly different had in not been for the effort of Russia.

I have yet to see the West say anything favourable about any Soviet leader.
We liked and respected Gorbachev. Even when he criticizes us he is still generally respected.

The vast majority of the western population have no clue and don't even want to have a clue about any other culture that does not embrace their beliefs, preferring to swallow anything that is fed to them as gospel truth. The EU has been encroaching on Russia ever since it was formed, the Russians have resisted and will continue to resist because they do not want to lose their independence, they are an independent people. The EU has used the Ukraine as a pawn in their ploy to completely surround Russia.
It will not work now or ever.
Russia took the brunt of the losses in WW II both economic and casualties it is still recovering.

"Russia took the brunt of the losses in WW II both economic and casualties it is still recovering."
Er, I think Germany and the UK took as much of a bettering in terms of economic at least.
Germany was given a huge boost after the war.
UK took a while to get going.
I don't think Russia is still recovering. Russia was going fine.

there goes your theory that "google is your friend"
a lot of 'historical' information you have posted here
is simply not true. maybe visit a library?

about the rise of superpowers after ww2 -
and books about soviet union's economic
recovery post ww2

These statistics might prove enlightening, too.
The siege of Leningrad lasted from September 1941 to 1944. By the end of the siege, some 632,000 people are thought to have died with nearly 4,000 people from Leningrad starving to death on Christmas Day, 1941.

In all, 18,000 tons of high explosives had been dropped on England during eight months of the Blitz. A total of 18,629 men, 16,201 women, and 5,028 children were killed
along with 695 unidentified charred bodies. (a total of 40,553)

the “Dresden Commission of Historians for the Ascertainment of the Number of Victims of the Air Raids on the City of Dresden on 13/14 February 1945” has provisionally estimated the likely death-toll at around 18,000 and definitely no more than 25,000.

It really amazes me how many experts we have on WWII history and beyond.
All gleaned from books and Newspapers. All biased reports in one way or another.
One must have lived there at that time, experienced first hand the destruction and hardships of the people.
I was born in Romania, grew up in Poland and Germany. I still have family in the Ukraine and get first hand reports about their situations.
Vladimir Putin was not even born when WWII ended. He too knows only what he read in reports and what people dare to talk about. Talk is dangerous in some countries, and who wants to trust someone who surrounds himself with Biky Gangs?
Vladimir Putin was not honouring the fallen soldiers. Vladimir Putin was bignoting himself by making a big show of weapons display. Perhaps with the thought of scaring the rest of the world?

i agree with you with one exception -
to become a historian - one does not have
to have lived through specific period of time
to be regarded as an authority on the subject
