No I don't, and didn't say I did.
It's a duty of care we all have and trivialisation is not helpful.
Not agreeing with you is not trivialisation.
Would you be so quick to brush it off as inconsequential if one of your own family were to be injured of killed as a result of drunken incident?
That is what you said. And that is what I repleid to.
You have no idea who amongst of us have been in the position where a relative, friend or family member has been seriously injured by a thug.
Education about violence and dealing with the problems of violence will get better results than blaming pub and club opening hours.
That's right, and education means parent being good role models, and banning advertising which glamourises drinking and makes it look cool and sociable.
That's a start.
The follow through is earlier closing times, improved public transport, more policing and less availability of alcohol to people under legal drinking age.
Frankly I don't care wether you agree with me or not, freaks. Actually I think you disagree with me on principal anyway, so the point is moot.
I'm simply stating my opinion.
I have no reason to disagree with you on principle and I agree improved public transport is a good idea. I also agree parents should be good role models by not drinking and driving or drinking and behaving badly. I don't however believe parents should necessarily take a hard line approach to ther children drinking. If they want a drink for their 16th birthday there is no harm in allowing them to have a drink, a drink not a carton full of drinks.
I have an issue with advertising that features people drinking alcohol with cars. I haven't noticed if they still have such ads but recall the some of the wine cooler ads where people were basically partying on with wine cooler while out and about in cars. The same applies to ads showing people drinking in boats. It encourages unsafe behaviours.
The sort advertising I would like to see more of is ads that encourage people to go out and have fun without drinking or getting drunk. I think the whole alcohol and going out for fun without it should be covered at school more than it was when my young ones were there. When I was at school these lessons were basically teach yourself or learn through your mistakes if you're lucky enough to survive them. 😄 We've progressed a lot since then :D:D
