How funny. Aussie voters want to get rid of Abbott but would rather "Someone Else" than a return to Labor. "Don't Know" who - as long as it's "Someone Else".
The coveted five laughy-face award
"After the Labor leadership soap opera no one in Government wants the discussion about preferred leader, yet everyone is waiting for the polls to start. After all, as we noted last week Tony Abbott's standing is worse than Julia Gillard's in the terminal phase of her leadership.
The idea of Malcolm shines again, saying as much about ourselves and our yearning for a different, better kind of politics, as it does about any of the players inside the contest.
After all, the most consistent and enduring performer in our "preferred leader" polling over the years is "someone else". And combine them with "don't know" and you are on a real winner."
Joe Hockey | 22% | 27% | 28% | 14% |
Malcolm Turnbull | 14% | 15% | 20% | 14% |
Tony Abbott | 9% | 8% | 13% | 3% |
Julie Bishop | 6% | 7% | 5% | 9% |
Andrew Robb | 2% | 2% | 2% | * |
Someone else | 19% | 19% | 14% | 27% |
Don't know | 28% | 22% | 18% | 33% |

that's not quite how I read it.....what am I missing?
Which of the following do you think would make the best leader of the Liberal Party?
on โ04-06-2014 09:34 AM
The Coalitionโs overall position had weakened โ the poll showed Labor in an election-winning position with 53% of the two-party-preferred vote compared with the Coalitionโs 47%. And Tony Abbott is seen as the best leader of the Liberal party by only 18%, compared with Malcolm Turnbull, preferred by 31%.
Any other mooted future Liberal leaders trail a long way behind โ the treasurer, Joe Hockey, is preferred by 6%, Julie Bishop by 1% and Christopher Pyne by less than 1% of respondents.

:
It's not much of a surprise to hear Labor is not in contention to lead the Liberal Party.
It's a long stretch to conclude that Aussie voters would rather someone else than Labor, given the question was about Liberal leadership not preferred PM.

You seem to have missed the key point of the poll: Which of the following do you think would make the best leader of the Liberal Party?
I am not surprised no Labor politician showed up on this poll lol.

I also note that you chose to publish the graph from 2009 instead of 2014 where 28% preferred Turbull.
The whole point of the article was to suggest that Turnbull, whilst not popular in 2009 is now by far the most popular choice.

The coveted five laughy-face award
