Voters Prefer "Someone Else"

How funny. Aussie voters want to get rid of Abbott but would rather "Someone Else" than a return to Labor. "Don't Know" who - as long as it's "Someone Else".

The coveted five laughy-face award

"After the Labor leadership soap opera no one in Government wants the discussion about preferred leader, yet everyone is waiting for the polls to start. After all, as we noted last week Tony Abbott's standing is worse than Julia Gillard's in the terminal phase of her leadership.

The idea of Malcolm shines again, saying as much about ourselves and our yearning for a different, better kind of politics, as it does about any of the players inside the contest.

After all, the most consistent and enduring performer in our "preferred leader" polling over the years is "someone else". And combine them with "don't know" and you are on a real winner."

Thank you for that, I've always coveted that award and so rarely get it, Martini :), and I do always get a giggle out of how quickly you people all come out together in concerted defense.

To me the point of article is:

"After all, the most consistent and enduring performer in our "preferred leader" polling over the years is "someone else". And combine them with "don't know" and you are on a real winner."

In other words, be it Liberal or Labor, most voters don't know, or would prefer someone else, but are stuck having to choose between one or the other, because there is just no-one else.

Hence this constant destabilising swing from one to the other.

I am pleased that you like your award. I would have preffered to give it to you for something else in all seriousness but it's better than nothing I suppose lol.

But either way, you are still reading the article wrong. If I (as a left supporter) was asked the straightforward question of who you would prefer to see as the LIBERAL leader, it wouldn't occur to me to think outside Liberal party. I would only tick the "Anyone Else" or "I Don't Know" options if I didn't think any of the current Liberal politicians were up to the job.

And when the articles says that the most consistent and enduring performer in the poll is "Someone Else" they are referring to the comparisons between polls from 2009 to 2014 which specifically refers to Liberal leadership/

Re: Voters Prefer "Someone Else"

The tables % refer to this question : Q. Which of the following do you think would make the best leader of the Liberal Party?

Not a readers own interpretation of what the table % are about.

Joono: I was just trying to make the point of that article/table %'s clear and understandable. Didn't work anyway ( I didn't see martinis previous post before I posted mine either)

You're wrong on both points.  The point of the article is about Liberal leadership, only Liberal leadership. It has nothing to do with Labor or Greens or the 2 party system.

You're also wrong to imply other posters "all come out together in concerted defence".   But your welcome to giggle all you like at your imagined scenarios but please don't imply it's some organised event when we happen to post at the same time.  It's what happens with new threads sometimes.

Thank you. I did have a haircut but it doesn't look anywhere near fabulous.

I've always thought myself a Dianne Keaton look-alike, so - near enough, good enough for an avi.
