you can understand the guy being peeved

fine, you get stopped for a 'blow in the bag'

you havent been drinking so you pass no worries

but then

the police decide to give you a pile of defects for minor carp just cos they can.

but even then he didnt carry on and swear ect.

but then the police decide to 'take it further'!

damage the car, taser the guy, arrest the guy, lie in reports, take him to jail, strip him, finger print him, dna him.

then tell him hes going to be charged with a crime!

only to call later to say, never mind we changed our minds!

only because the senior officer sees the video and goes 'oh shyte!'

Aint that the truth.

Some of the things going on in our local area are frankly quite frightening, but members of the public are too scared to speak up. I know of two incidents that make Daves video look like a Sunday school picnic.

I'm thinking that there should be specialised course units that run the whole time in all police academies/courses with candidates tested vigorously before graduation.  These units should cover ethics, morality, compassion, empathy, psychology (human behaviours including their own), sociology, and in general everything that will be encompassed within the human condition that they will run into.

No doubt some, but very few, of those subjects are being taught due to time constraints and funding issues, however, the consequences of not heavily stressing those values are creeping through and the repercussions are clearly visible, and some, not so visible.

What the answer is, who knows, but unless something changes, the bullies and those incapable of civilised behaviour in law enforcement will make all law abiding citizens fearful of them.

It is not a healthy relationship.

I believe that they had psychological tests years ago but all requirements have been decreased in order to fill the vacant positions

its not great in my eyes to see police officers who have tattoos all over them, shaved heads and wearing dark sunglasses.

change the clothes to a pair of scruffy jeans and a set of 'club colours' and you have a bikie gang member!

most police do look fine but standards are slipping.

A few years ago, a single police officer from our local area was sacked and found guilty in court of actively being involved in the sale of drugs, protecting drug dealers and having knowledge of the handling of stolen goods.

One officer can not operate in a close knit local police force in isolation. His team mates etc. must have known something was not right and quite possibly where also involved. You can argue he was brought before the courts, but it took an awful long time. Since then locals who have spoken up about local police corruption have been victimised in the most frightening ways. ( similar to the scare tactics used by the Calabrian mafia )

I have specific, accurate knowledge of one recent case where police have been actively working to protect those in the drug industry. I don't know how far the level of corruption extends, but suspect it may be at the minimum, a major regional command area covering some of SA,s worst drug affected regions. I have considered passing this knowledge on to local MP,s etc, but frankly consider my own personal safety and the safety of my family take precedence over a corrupted police force and the activities of druggies.

Often the only difference between the police and the criminals is the clothes they wear.

Am I bitter and angry - you bet !!!  We should be able to have absolute trust in our police not be living in fear of them.

SA,s police force urgently needs a royal commission against corruption investigation.
