WHAT CHANGES WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ON EBAY DISCUSSION BOARDS - Ina Steiner

"eBay is revamping its community area including the discussion boards. The change comes as eBay transitions away from using LiveWorld to moderate its boards. As we report in Monday's news story, eBay was not ready to provide more details when we broke the story last month. Who will moderate the boards - will it be brought in-house, or will eBay outsource it to another company? We'll have to wait to find out.

But we do know eBay is revamping the boards. Certain features will remain the same, but the design will change."

One change that is puzzling is how eBay will designate an employee's post. In the past, moderators' posts were always shown with a pink box - with the new design, posts from eBay employees will be identified by a blue box surrounding the post. Users had always referred to eBay forum moderators as "pinks" - so changing the color seems an odd decision.

Users have already expressed concern over what the change in moderation will mean for the user experience, so hearing that eBay will revamp the community area will likely cause more concern. On a positive note, eBay will move all previous posts to the updated forums.

What do you think of these changes, described here:

and what would you change on the eBay discussion boards if you could, and why?

What do you mean... the changes from liveworld to ?, changes to the eBay forum?

I think it does, gives posters something to discuss/complain about etc.

I do think a resident moderator is an absolute must. Other than that I'm a bit 'Ho, hum, here we go again'. Since I joined Ebay we've had two changes of  format and neither of them seems to be a vast improvement on the original one

I agree, but the way this forum is now, you can't even have a laugh or someone will hunt you out....what's that about exactly?...e.g. I posted a pic of a cat falling into a fish bowl and the fish eating its tail.....& it was pretty funny.....but someone decided that it wasn't, and hence Kitty 'snuffed it'...huh?....

Why do some people appoint themselves prefects?  They remind me of high school...never got on with prefects and it's about that juvenile....I'm dobbing !!!...:^O

Remember that word?  wonder if it's been deemed a cultural profanity?...YET ?  Every other culturally specific figure of speech has it seems.

They may very well get rid of the chat boars this time as no changes in the past have fixed the big problems.

I mean in the bigger picture. Does it really matter?

There are other social fora.

Does ebay need to provide a social forum for it's members, other than the Q&A fora?

Do they need to pay for a moderating service that is not conducive to business?

I think that ever since that "dob in a drug dealer" campaign, it has become progressively more acceptable to "dob" on someone.

The big problems are trolls Hawk and if ebay don't get rid of them Aussie laws might soon do it for them.  Trolling is out of control everywhere, and until there is some kind of penalty, it will keep happening everywhere.  I understand Faceache is out of control with trolls and so is twoddle....I think it's just a sign of these times.

I saw a program this morning re: a study on bullying in schools and it seems to be out of control e.g. 63% of Aussie kids report that they have been bullied quite seriously, but I'd have to go looking for the study.  America has something like 78%, which doesn't surprise me.   culturally, we're becoming thugs it seems...at least on the net and in the school yard.
