WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Word of warning: the last word that I guessed (top left) is sneaky.

Also, word line 2 (right) could have been a few different things given the letters I had. I was about to play an elimination word, but hesitated; one of the strong possibilities was a word that’s come up more than once in one of these Wordle-type games and I decided to risk a guess. It paid off.

That's funny you mentioned your most used starters. I never saw your post till after doing wordle today and it wasn't my starting word (read no further anyone who has not done it yet)

I started with shout and second guess was stare, but only because of results in the first line.

I have a range of starters. I particularly like ocean, combined with maybe flirt and K1000's (I think) dumps or dumpy. But it gets boring to use the same words so these days I ring th changes and try almost whatever random comes into my mind.

As for the word I bombed out on, I was on the phone and didn't write it down. I remember thinking at the time I should and make a complaint but I didn't and now it has gone, I can't remember what it was. I do know in the google search it said to me-do you mean... xxxxxx or whatever, and a similar word (but not the same) was the name of some band or group.

I tried about 3 different searches without uncovering it anywhere.

Not as good as yours, countess. But I was happy enough with it. The trouble is, I am pretty sure all these 4 words have come out before in other wordle games. 2 & 4 definitely I have seen before.

I had to share this one - it's the best result for octordle I've ever had.

Thanks to countess for mentioning that the first word (the last one I solved) was sneaky, as that made me think a little harder instead of trying for an elimination word.

As for starter words, i usually use STARE for wordle and dordle, but have a combination of 3 words for quordle and octordle that use all the vowels and 10 consonants to (hopefully) give me a good start.

I agree that using the same words does get boring, but every time I change from STARE it would have been a much better starter for that particular puzzle!

3rd guess was an elimination word. From that point onwards, I calmly guessed the words. I sometimes leap to a guess, such as with the final word here… There were other possibilities, but I went with gut instinct of what was most likely.

Im happy with this. I did need the line 5 elimination word to continue, but that word gave me all I needed to set out on the rest of the words.
