I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I was all over the place, trying to guess the second one, only to realise at the end that we have seen this word used very recently.

This flowed smoothly, with once word leading to the next and as i had a reasonable scattering of greens, I could guess a few.
All pretty normal words. The 8th, I probably would have (in the past) dismissed as a proper name, but I think it has been out before.

I'm like, what the absolute eff! I did NOT expect to get that word on my 4th go. I expected it to go "nup, no way, not a word". I know it's a word that is sometimes used in Aus, but I doubt it would be used much in the US, if ever. Even then, we would use it without the 5th letter.

CATER was my starter.
I had seen your post earlier, s&d, and it gave me a hint that the last letter wouldn’t be the obvious sort of thing. A word sprang to my mind; I played it.

This looks like a good score, but it didn’t feel right, the whole way through.
I started with STARE. From that I made a guess at bottom left being STEAM, but really that’s only because STEAM and STEAK have come up more frequently than STEAL or STEAD, for instance. I don’t like making those leaps without more data.
Then I played LINGO as an eliminator. INANE was obviously the top left word at that point.
I tackled second block right; the word had NE as the final two letters, and I knew it had an O and an R. It presented me with a dilemma. Was it —ORNE or was it —RONE? Prone crone drone or borne … these were the obvious possibilities. Again, I think I was influenced by BORNE having popped up quite a lot, so I played that instead of using a careful eliminator such as biped. I didn’t deserve getting that word, but get it I did.
And so on. I just felt uneasy and irritatedly reckless with my guesses.

Those were my thoughts exactly too. Strange choice of word.

The word did occur to me after my first 2 shots but I played the 3rd eliminator just to check.
