I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

You should have played it! Sometimes you have to go with your gut.

You didn't play "alien" as your starter word today. If you did, you'd have had a green and yellow. While I've been mashing it up a bit over the last week and trying different start words, I went back to my usual starter word of "adieu" today. It paid off. I was very surprised!

No, I think I started with ocean today. I played the other 3 games and did a mish mash of starters with those. I've made a little list of words I could put together with the main aim being to cover all vowels in 2 turns. I have read though that the consonants are more important, which I tend to agree with-but I still like to have all the vowels covered if possible!
PS When I played octordle today and got to my last word (#8, from memory) I looked at it and thought-now, if I had started with alien, I would have got this one a LOT sooner. My 2 starters had been brine and doula.

Well, the word on the left was unexpected. When I first thought of it, I dismissed it as unlikely to be the answer; it hasn’t appeared previously and it’s not the sort of word one uses in everyday conversation. However, I seemed to have eliminated any other possibility… so, still doubting, I tried out the word… and it was correct.
