WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Drats. It would have been slightly better except on the second word I tried riper before getting the correct answer. I suspected it repeated a letter, just chose the wrong letter.

My starter yielded blanks, nothing but a blank.

I required two eliminators, and I was lucky at that. I knew after row 2 that there was a reasonably wide field of at least 6 letters, so I divided up these letters, selected the ones I thought most likely, and chose an eliminator comprising those three and two other letters. Fortunately it included “the” letter.

But there we are. 4. I try hard to get Wordle in 3 but I couldn’t do that today.

My first eliminator was LYING - perhaps I should have gone with LINGO. But… no, I’d still have had the same dilemmas. I ended up also using PLUMB late in the puzzle as another eliminator (for obvious reasons).

There was a weird compulsion after my first turn to try camel. I had to resist it as after a few moments of contemplation, I could see that there could be other answers.😁 So I tried scrub instead, just to get a few more letters out of the way.

This was a different sort of game in that quite often, I could not see any possibilities other than the answer.

The only one that tripped me up was word 5, where on turn 5 I decided to try 'merge'. It helped, anyway, with quite a few squares.

I very strongly suspected the pattern of the word… but there were still quite a few possibilities. My eliminator identified the letters and confirmed the pattern. Job done.
