I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I was happy enough with this.
Beware, American spelling in one of the answers.
I could figure out the probable shape of the word but didn't solve it till I realised that.

Again, TRACE as my starter, and LOUGH as my 2nd row eliminator. I could start guessing 3L (3 possibilities, so I played one, and it was correct).
As a result, I had 1L in the bag. 2R followed without a protest, and consequently 2L was unveiled.
I’d known the shape of 4L ever since the 3rd row, but was hoping to narrow down the first letter. I now had it between two letters… I chose one possibility and it was correct. (There’s no doubt that luck plays an important part in Octordle.)
I could now solve 3R. Warning: US spelling.
1R was now screamingly obvious. I hadn’t paid much attention to it but had I done so, I could have solved it several moves earlier.
Ditto with the final word - 4R. It could really only be one word.

We both gave warning of the US spelling…!
It tickles my funny bone to see that you solved 4R first while I left it to last. I am guessing that your eliminator contained its first, second and third letters (all yellow) and that your starter contained its fourth letter (green)?

Correct. By turn 3, I had 4 of the letters so it was just a matter of moving them about to see what I could make.

I thought I was stuck at 2L. In desperation I tried one of the possible words… and it was right. That was a relief.
After that, I could solve 4L abs then 2R.
4R had to be made from leftover letters.

Couple of wrong guesses set me back
clank/clang and mower/mover
But at least i got there. I wasn't sure I would. I could only think of toddy for #8 but I wasn't sure if there would be a different word in the wings there, too.😂

TRACE was once again my starter. I immediately began suspecting a particular pattern, but deduced to do some ruling out.

TRACE was my starter. I used LOUGH as my 2nd row eliminator.
I could start solving at 3L, and 4R was no trouble. 2L - easy. 4L and 3R followed without any hesitation.
2R lacked only one letter, and that was easily filled. But now we come to 1L. That was a weird one - very weird! Warning: US colloquialism! I guessed it only after trying mental gymnastics, and was helped by knowing where one of the vowels was and where the other vowel must go.
And finally 1R… I had one vowel, one consonant. One of the few possibilities made more sense than the other, and it fit the pattern of Octordle’s “mindset”.

Away most of yesterday, did them on my phone, results in both nothing special I am afraid.
